IMHO losing thread view is the biggest reason for the sharp rise in retardation here. That and Trump.
Joe, I am compelled because of my calling to set the record straight when people say unbiblical things. It is just part of my spiritual dna.
Dude. This is the AOTF. This is a place specifically created for posting irreverence, unbiblical things, and tits and ass. Your proselytizing will not have your intended effect here. It's like walking into Nick's and singing Hail Purdue. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

Now friend let me say this. I don't bring up biblical things up unless people say crazy unbiblical things. I am not proselytizing. I am socializing. If I say something against socialism you better believe I get slammed on the AOTF for it. So what am I missing here? I have to tow the party line even when people say wrong things about my Jesus?

Van, I don't think Jesus needs us to defend him on a basketball off topic forum.

There is nothing that can be said on this forum to change anyone's mind about Jesus. Absolutely nothing. Sometimes there can be civil conversations, but for the most part that is difficult. If I win people to Christ it will be through relationships and them seeing something in me and my family that they don't see and maybe want to be a part of. Here people assume we are intolerant, ignorant, extreme etc...While that may or may not be true in many ways we as Christians have earned that reputation in how poorly we represent Christ in today's world.

So feeling the need to defend Christ on an random internet forum seems like a futile waste of effort.

Knife cuts both ways though because no matter how stupid people tell me I am on here or how awful they feel God is that won't change my opinion of what I believe.

That's all I plan on saying on the subject, but that is my advice to you.

They don't have a choice. Haven't you ever noticed how Moops will go all street preacher out of nowhere? They have certain triggers they are compelled to respond to. Once you learn the triggers, it's fun as hell.

Liar ..

I understand reverend, and I think you can but you gotta adjust your approach. It's a marathon not a sprint. Specially here!

If the bands playing in D minor you can't sing in C sharp .

Unless it's harmonic minor then the C in the D minor scale is raised a half step to C#.

Don't use musical references you don't understand. Just don't ..

Jesus never needs us to defend Him. But He calls us to it. The truth is Nick, unbelievers talk about God and or Christianity more than I do. I come to the AOTF to talk about non IU Basketball topics. I would say a lot of people on here, not all mind you, are very intolerant. But they would call us intolerant. It's funny how that works. If God,religion, etc were not brought up then I would probably never speak of it because when I come to this forumn, I am wanting to talk about baseball, movies etc. Yet I doubt they will stop speaking blasphemies towards God because in their heart of hearts they hate Him. They hate the idea of Him. And they hate anyone who believes in Him. I would call others to test me on this. Stop bringing up my Jesus who died and you will hardly hear a peep from me.

You should just go back to the free board with the rest of the hilljacks

Well obviously I was speaking that it MUST be in a Harmonic minor, it wouldn't make sense any other way. Any dolt would know that, Jeesh.

This statement is a leaky vessel. It holds no water.

Do you represent Christ poorly?
Are...are you kidding? You once went off on me for "not being a real Christian" when I mentioned that I was Catholic. And that's all I said. No rant or preaching or anything.

Once ... upon a time ... I could control myself.

Not sure when you are talking about but not sure about how that is 'going off' either. There was a time I didn't consider Catholics real christians and really still don't but do think the Holy spirit can work within some to show them the light. There is a lot of idolatry, unbiblical, tradition-based stuff within Catholicism. Tradition is what the Pharisees proclaimed when they crucified the Savior. Many protestants believe Catholicism as the whore of revelations. Regardless of whether it is or not, there is a lot of flawed teaching.

Unfortunately, I do not remember the exact discussion. Are you willing to come into the light now?

I love it when one Christian has the arrogance to presume that he has the right and/or ability to determine which other Christians are actually true Christians.

What an example of Christian humility you are showing.

Interesting. So you're one of those Christians who thinks the only good Christians are those that practice your brand of Christianity your way. I'm just curious as to why you're so certain you are right and all those who might differ are wrong. What makes you so special among mortals?

But isn't that all Judean religion in a nutshell.

2000 years of holy wars based on that exact same argument.

and fwiw - he's not mortal, and neither are you or I. We're all immortal, as long as time and space exists.

No. Too much of it, yes, and I've argued to you in the past that I think this kind of fundamentalism is a natural danger of monotheism, but in practice, the ecumenical movement is alive and well. Most Protestants have no problem accepting that Catholics are also Christians. The Catechism of the Catholic Church in turn specifies that churches that are not part of the Roman communion are still part of the Christian community, while Jews and Muslims occupy a special place in God's plan, as they both also worship the true God of Abraham. People like Moops are really in the minority worldwide, although they are quite common in America (also, Australia and Canada).

It's usually politically right wing Protestants that engage in this. You know, the one's that equate Old fashioned white American culture and Republicanism to true Christianity. Ironic, isn't it?

Wrong. Christians are christians. But not all who call themselves christians are christians.

The Holy spirit will guide those whose faith is in Him.

Yes, the Catholic church wants one world religion. The harlot of many lovers.

Thanks for agreeing that I am on the narrow path.

Okay, tell me how else one could characterize the above quote.

Yup, along with one "true" God came the idea "your God is wrong"..

of course there's probably exceptions to all of this but....

In ancient polytheistic times a single household had multiple Gods represented and most who did practice worship worshipped multiple Gods.. The tolerance for differing worship practices was basically the norm. It was also seen as a good thing to honor foreign Gods as part of diplomacy. I'm sure religion came into play during war, since there were war Gods but war over religion was probably rare or at least rarer than it has been during the monotheistic era.

Now it's time for another song. When you take this show on the road, can I be the music person?

Some great empires in the past (e.g., Romans, Mongols) made it a point to promote religious tolerance as a policy, because it made their political control more stable. The only exception was when the government viewed a particular religion as a threat to the stability of the state (e.g., Jewish revolt, early Christianity as a whole).

Yup, both of those religions had political motives behind them (while under Roman rule) and notice they're monotheistic. They were probably hated because unlike the Romans, they were intolerant of the other Gods. Maybe? I doubt they honored them, and people (this board is a great example) just don't like being told their beliefs are fairly tales.

fwiw - I especially like Bacchus and Venus ... their festivals and rites had to be a blast.

Actually, the Romans greatly respected the Jewish religion. They considered it to be a very ancient religion, and had respect for all things ancient (this may have also been a strike against Xians; cf. their immediate distrust of other new cults, like Mithraism). It was only the religious fomentation of an independence movement in Palestine that turned the empire against the religion.

The Romans were nothing if not pragmatic.

Ah, okay, and then later Nero's hard-on against Christians...

Yea, Romans let their slaves worship whomever or basically whatever they wanted.

The Mongols took it even a step further. Genghis Khan made sure that all of the religions of his empire were represented at court, as well as within local government structures and in the armies. He cared about making sure the tributes were paid and no one revolted, and he thought religious and cultural pluralism was a good tool for making that happen.

Genghis for being a psychopath had some really inventive policies. Conquered nations became true meritocracies. Ya know he probably got more pussy than any single man in history. Serial rapist.
