Since Tino will still be our QB Coach throughout the Playoffs and in the Championship Game šŸ˜Ž I thought I'd make it clear that whoever the next guy is he won't actually be coaching much for us until Spring Practice of 2025...

Here's my list (and don't worry..., I'm certain that Coach Cignetti has an even better one)...

T. Jackson will be starter Day 1.

More QB coaches

Tyler Allen gets rave reviews and comes from Cig's area:

https://wvusports.com/staff-directory/tyler-allen/3121

Sean Brophy is well regarded:

https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/sean-brophy/819

Gus Ragland is thought very highly of:

https://miamiredhawks.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/gus-ragland/713

Dane Stevens is another guy who gets rave reviews:

https://uwgathletics.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/dane-stevens/637

As for Jackson, based upon all the rumblings I am hearing, IU is planning on going all in on stud transfer QB. It might very well be that Jackson goes with Tino. Maybe he doesn't. Either way, he's been a great teammate.

I made a post that I thought Jackson would follow Tino but last last night a 4-star QB flipped from Arizona to UCLA. The QB said it was because of his work with Tino.

Cignetti's track record with quarterbacks is top shelf. I trust that he will not only get a talented QB coach, but also bring in a coveted portal QB that will lead the team to success next fall.

What an exciting time for Indiana football. Having a coach who can actually win the 50/50 games and grow the program into a serious contender!!

Frank Ponce - OC and QB coach at Appalachian St.

Sun Belt guy. Competed against Cignetti and Haines and had some success. Might be a little old for this particular job but also might in the running for some bigger (at least on paper) jobs.

@IndyResident16 mentioned in another thread Shane Montgomery, who took over for Hoeppner at Miami (OH) when he came here has worked with Cig as his QB coach before Tino. That name makes sense.

Here's his bio:

Going over all those resumes' Mike Neu makes the most sense... He's available, we could pay him well, there's some upward mobility possible when we eventually lose Shanahan to a Head Coaching job, and he keeps his family in an area they've grown up in (relatively speaking [only a 2 hour drive from old friends]...). Our competition is probably an NFL position...

I really like the Ohio University guy Isphording too but it sounds as though he's a perfect fit for where he is and probably isn't interested...

Piatkowski (Pike) up at EMU would be a solid choice but I'd imagine he's looking for a bigger OC position if he leaves there... We could pay him more than he's making and present the possible opportunity to move up to OC eventually so we might have a shot if we offer him... It would be a gamble for him but I think it'd be a smart move for him to make if we offered the position...

Ponce sounds intriguing due to one primary thing: He's been recognized for his recruiting prowess...

With Indiana on the upward course, & with our current assistant pool money here, I think Coach Cignetti will be able to have the pick of the litter.

From what seems like dejuvu Cignetti is back on the clock to make this hire... Whoever he's recruiting at QB in the Portal is gonna want to know who the QB Coach is and get to know him before he signs here...

I'd like to see this wrapped up by next Wednesday, if possible... Which brings us back to Neu...

And even closer to family. Was neighbors with his sister Lisa and her husband Todd Witsken (former tennis player) before he passed and still run into her regularly. Believe Mike has a college aged son who was on Ball Stateā€™s team and a couple high school aged children.

Seems like a good fit with a great resume' of working with QB's... I'd be happy if he ended up here...

I trust that Cignetti has a knowledge base of potential competent assistants that rivals most HC's out there... I think we'll be fine whoever he chooses to fill the slot... I just hope he's able to fill it sooner rather than later but based on last year I'm comfortable that he'll get that done in a timely manner once again...

Not asking this to sound critical, but just genuine curiosity. What makes Mike Neu a good candidate other than being from Indiana? What QBs of note has he ā€œdevelopedā€. I canā€™t remember any QB from ball state since the guy who played for Brady Hoke when they beat us at home during the Lynch era (even though his name slips my memory at the moment). Looking at his Wikipedia it seems like the best role he had as Qb coach was a 1 or 2 year stint for the Saints.

Even with the umass ties Shane Montgomery does seem to make the most sense. Not sure if he would want to come back to the staff in a demoted role from being the OC, but it seems like they would already have chemistry and success together. I trust Cig regardless who it is though.

I'm a Piatkowski guy myself but just think Neu seems the best readily available, could be wrong, and probably am in this case...

As far as Neu goes, all I know is that Ball State has always seemed to have good QB play up there for quite awhile... Neu played the position so that has to help...

Here's his bio (but it doesn't really make my case):

I mean Sunseri had no prior experience other than GA and Quality Control titles prior to being hired at JMU. Drew Plitt was a very good QB who lead Ball State to a MAC championship and has bounced around a few NFL practice squads. Riley Neal and John Paddock were good enough to get poached by P4 schools and start. Kadin Semonza this past season lead the MAC in yards, TDā€™s, and ypg as a freshman. And of course coached Drew Brees in the NFL. I would say heā€™s more than qualified to be a position coach in the B10. Being from Indiana is simply a bonus.

He would be a good get. Has Florida connections too.
Look for guys from staffs where the HC was let go or things are in flux. This happened with the App State coach.
Chip Lindsey - former Troy coach and the OC/QB coach for UNC under Mack Brown.
Dan Enos is still currently floating around as an offensive analyst at Florida.

As usual, you deliver. He's great. Would be a solid pick up
FWIW:

Cig wouldā€™ve been his position coach at NC State (presumably)

Burke later played and coached at Louisville so heā€™s familiar with the area

Also has coaching experience with tight ends and special teams

Recruiting connections in Florida and Texas

Fair amount of overlap between Traylorā€™s offense and Cigā€™s so Burke wouldnā€™t need to make major adjustments, schematically speaking

Should be ready and able to step into play-calling role if/when Shanahan leaves
