if we had just weathered the storm and stuck with Sampson? He understands what it takes to win at the college level. Too bad we are "too respectable" for playmakers who smoke a little bud and skip a class every now and then. Could we not just give him a stern talking to and tighten the reins a bit. I'd prefer an occasional recruiting infraction to this shit show.

There were people at IU who never wanted Sampson hired and found a way to push him out. The improper phone calls never even had to be made known to the public. Just cover it up. They were minor infractions.

Sampson is a good coach but was a bad hire. The program has mostly been a dumpster fire ever since. The ONLY time it wasn't was when Zeller saved Crean's butt. There's no Zeller coming through the door.

Sampson shouldn’t have been hired, but Beilein wanted the job and should’ve had it. Of course, there were plenty of people who didn’t think he could coach, so who knows if he would’ve succeeded.

I agree we should hire him back!

I don't believe Tyler Zeller liked Samscum. It is possible that Cody would not have come to IU if he was the coach instead of Coach Crean.
Every time you call him Samscum, you make it clear that you’re a phony Christian. Please leave.

Sampson was bringing in elite talent though, talent other schools had no problem taking and winning with. Devin Ebanks and Tu Holloway were committed for 2008 and we still had Crawford and Bassett.

And that’s why you’re a phony Christian.
You make no sense. You are going to condone what he did? Are you the kind of guy who dates a girl who is secretly dates another guy, you find out about it, and tell her that you want to make it work? Have a spine my friend. When somebody messes you over then you don't long for them when they don't even say they are sorry.

I’m not condoning anything, I’m simply pointing out that you don’t live your alleged Christianity. Ever hear the phrase “Hate the sin, love the sinner”? Could there be any more Christian tenet than that, yet you reject it totally. You’re either an absolute charlatan or someone who isn’t studied or devoted to your practice.

We couldn't have stuck with him, he was banned from coaching a NCAA school for five years.

My sentiments exactly, and I think we should bring him back after just everybody concludes Archie sucks, Crean had major behavior problems and players nearly killing each other DUI (mind you after the prick kicked all talent off the team for minor shit, less than we saw later with his own recruits), and Sampson … yeah, too many text messages, the horror!

Are you aware that Jesus confronted the Pharisees and called them names? Brood of Vipers etc? To be a Christian doesn't mean you are always milk toast. When there is injustice and wrong doing you can call it out and still be a Christian. Where did I say I hated Calvin? I don't personally hate the man. I hate what he did to our program. And he has never apologized for it. I would forgive him if he did.

The analog is misplaced, and you’re a fraudulent Christian. By the way, it’s “Kelvin”. And you’re still a phony Christian.

I know his name, and I guess I'll get over your feelings about me. I got the love of my family, church, friends, and Lord so I am good. Are you a Christian?
BTW, I call him Calvin Samscum because it is how I feel about what he did to IU. It's a protest. The minute he apologizes to IU and to us the fans I would say his name again. People can be forgiven, but they have to ask for it. I did tell my current church the name I have for him. A lot of those folks didn't even know who he was. lol

No, you don’t know his name unless, of course, you’re lying. Again, you’ve chosen to not forgive someone, a trait that is incredibly “un-Christian”. That you aren’t able to understand that says everything about your faux faith.

I followed that recruitment with a lot of interest, and I really liked Beilein based on his record Why do you think Beilein wanted the job? He was committed to Michigan and off the market as far as the IU search was concerned.

Wasn’t he at VWU then? He took the UM job the following year after not being extended an offer by IU.

He's not asked for forgiveness of IU or us. How can you forgive someone who doesn't even admit wrongdoing? The Bible says we forgive as the Lord forgives us. God doesn't just forgive people without them acknowledging their sin. We are to forgive people on the same basis. They have to admit it. I know the former IU coach's name. Believe me.

I’ve forgiven plenty of people who haven’t asked for it, and been forgiven by others well before I sought their forgiveness. You’re a phony.

He was at WVU but he accepted UM's offer without interviewing at IU, as I recall. The reason I am pretty sure of that is that the whole recruitment coincided with my retirement and relocation to Bloomington. I'm sure that if either of us felt energetic enough we could piece together the details.

There was no DUI related to Devin Davis' injury. I think Holt blew .02.

The buyout for JB at WVU was too much for good ol IU.

I thought he was considered but ultimately not hired by IU a year before he was considered, offered and subsequently hired by UM.

I always thought it odd that after Sampson’s much publicized dismissal, other coaches weren’t reported for such a relatively minor (today acceptable) infraction, easily traced by every school’s athletic director through public phone records. Yet, not one other school reported excessive number of calls from that allowed. Cell phones were relatively new at the time and perhaps a novel way of communicating to recruits. Maybe Sampson didn’t appreciate the ability to track a non landline number.

The major problem with Sampson wasn’t the text issue it was the kind of kids he was bringing into the program. There was a lot of drugs use and class skipping going on during that year he was fired.

The proven poor grades and drug rumors weren’t mentioned until later, in justification for Sampson’s firing for cheating ways of illegal contact with recruits, producing an unfair recruiting advantage. Had Sampson not gotten caught on the phone calls, he would have coached many years at IU. If his players were as undisciplined off the court as they later wanted us to believe, Sampson was one hell of a coach to get them disciplined enough on the court to produce competitive results.
