What would you think

I forgot about pay your own way. Was that real? I think it was. If you transfer in the big ten you had to pay your own way at new school?

That sounds insane today.
Lawrence Funderburke "paid his own way" at OSU?

Doubt that.

If Rob transferred to PU? Lol. How crazy would that be. I believe it would be the first of its kind? Has any scholarship player ever transferred to or from PU?
I don't see how any one who spent 3 years at IU could transfer to PU, but it's a much different world now, and I'm not sure today's players would see it the same way.

Players play for coaches. Most could care less about the schools or rivalries. It’s us getting all caught up in that stupidity.

Today and what I expect to see the next few years is similar to what we saw in AAU ball. Roster churn.

Parents (and it was parents) would move kids around in search of:

A better team
More PT

Generally, the Coach's fault in their mind. There were kids that moved every season. Mine was not one of the elite teams but we were pretty good and saw kids pass downwards, laterally, upwards and sometimes back down.

Maybe recently, but Hummel leading a rousing IU sucks chant at the malt shop says otherwise. I know for a fact that a few of our guys absolutely hated purdue.

I’ll give you a few. But gone are the days of an entire team hating and focusing on a rival. Heck, recently I know a football player who either went from OSU to Michigan, or vice versa.

One more reason to dislike AAU hoops. I might even blame LeBron taking his talent to S. Beach.

Get off me lawn.

Pretty sure that was the rule in the 70s snd maybe later--having to pay your own way. I don't know of any immediate eligibilty in that period.

Who cares. Whatever is best for him

Four years.
I really should have said multiple years. I wasn't talking about Rob specifically, but I just meant if you'd been here long enough to be exposed to the rivalry and feel any allegiance to the school and program. I just think today's players look at this as "just business" and less and less about the school and program. It's certainly warranted and probably healthier, but it still feels like something is lost when rivalries don't mean as much. UNC v Duke has done a good job of retaining the emotion of a rivalry without sacrificing any of the monetary interests. I think the main thing missing from the IU v PU rivalry has been good IU teams!

Still VERY, VERY common in the AAU world. And now that the restrictions are gone, its obviously becoming prevalent in college world too. Like anything else, it isn't the reason for everyone. But it sure is for a lot of kids/families.

I don't think kids think like this any more...for any rivalry in any sport. I think the coaches, fans, athletic offices, etc... keep the rivalries alive, and the kids mainly just "go along with it".

I bought a St Peters shirt over the weekend, with the only motivating factor being that they beat both Kentucky and Purdue in this years tournament. My son (15), couldn't grasp that, at all.

I want whatever is best for Rob. If Purdue would give him a scholarship and he thinks he can get PT up there then good for him. Anyone upset by him doing what’s best for him and his family is a selfish clown.

best of luck to RP wherever he goes, including PU.

if X stays another yr, IU will be really strong at point with X and JHS, and mins could be tough there for even a good pg.
