What worries me about Iowa

Looking at what they're good at...
  • They keep hold of the ball - they're 10th in FBS in time of possession, holding the ball a bit over 33 minutes a game. IU averages a bit over 29 minutes of possession a game. I did a little math on the Penn State, Rutgers, and MSU games to try to figure out where our D was in time on the field when things got out of hand late. It looks like we have about 25 minutes worth of gas in the tank before declining returns kick in. They got to nearly 32 minutes at MSU before things fell apart. I worry those last 5 minutes of possession Iowa might get will be the difference between an IU win and loss.

  • They keep hold of the ball - they're 6th in turnover margin. They've taken the ball away 19 times vs losing it 9 times. I believe IU's turnover margin is what secured wins in the first four games as much as anything. That margin has shrunk in the B10 season. IU needs to hold the ball and maybe get Iowa to choke it up once or twice.
Add in they're good on 3rd down, run a meat-and-potatoes half-run/half-pass offense, and that D ... this is a win IU will have to earn on every down to get it.
