What will you do in the absence of sports

Yeah, well, the WHO said there was not contagous among humans in mid January, too.

I was there and spent over 2 weeks in an Italian hospital in Tuscany - Livorno. It's a large hospital. 4 to a room, males and females together, no air conditioning.... straight out of the 1950s.

Don't believe everything you read.

2 wks in the hospital. guessing that wasn't for a stubbed toe..

so how much was your bill, you somehow left out that part???

Nope. Just applied for unemployment this morning. This is, obviously, a very unusual & BAD case of unemployment filings...for 1 thing, there are so few jobs available, not to mention the CDC recommends staying home as much as possible, but also I'm Union, so I can't just go out & get any job. So....gonna' have an awful lot of free time. I've thought about trying to find someplace to volunteer, but I'm not sure that's the best idea either, for all the same reasons, I just....am going to be so bored, & feel so unproductive, As it is, I'm TOTALLY losing my physical conditioning(I run approx. 20 miles per week), & at my age(48), taking any significant time off is very costly, & very hard to get back to the point I'm at, or WAS--I can already feel mu clothes fitting differently, & having less ind in my lungs just doing simple things, like showering, climbing stairs, holding my breath when using mouthwash--it's already harder, in just 1 week. & I have Asthma, so I can't run outside until it warms up, & by that time, who knows if we'll allowed to run outside. The cold air causes attacks for me, exercising in it does, I mean. But that's my sacrifice personally, as far as a favorite habit, or hobby, & I'm not going to be selfish about it, it's a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things. We might just have to simply stay home, especially as this progresses. Sorry for such a long post, but again..I'm bored!

Well, be patient . . . spring is coming . . . today it's 82 in the northern Atlanta suburbs . . . the willow oak tree has yellow-green buds on it. Cherry trees have already bloomed and we're at the last of the Bradford pear tree blooms. Daffodils started blooming 6 weeks ago, and we have tulips in full bloom now.

BTW, does the union control what you can/can't do outside of the shop you're working in with them? Seems to me that you might be able to have a side gig without responsibility to the union or membership . . . .

What does the bill have to do with the quality of care?

Yes, I did get a bill. It was low, compared to the US. Is that a shock to you?

If you have a Bradford pear tree, kill it, kill it now. The seeds spread by birds revert to the Callery pear form. They will absolutely take over natural areas and are incredibly difficult to kill. Cut them to the ground, and they just send up multiple sprouts. They have 1-2' long thorns that will go through the soles of your shoes and cause flat tires to tractors and mowers. I've personally cleared (by hand) a field of nearly four acres of these evil things. Plant something native, help out pollinating insects. There are anthracnose-resistant dogwoods, serviceberries, redbuds, etc.

Oh I know it's coming, btw--today is the 1st day of Spring, earliest one in like 100 years, or something. As far as the Union, no they can't stop us from working, but they're in a dogfight with the company to try to get us paid longer(they are paying us 1 week--this week, whereas some other casinos-I work in a casino--are paying their employees indefinitely). So if we go out & get jobs, that weakens our position, in the Union's eyes, Of course this is temporary, at a point--soon--people have to do what they have to do. I applied because, at least it's there if I need it. If I get a job at some point, I can cancel UI benefits.

Well, I'm still posting, so I think you can assume I lived.

None of your damn business how much.

so you saved what, $30,000 - $100,000, and you're bitching because you had no air conditioning?

i'm sure all those who work full time but can't afford to get treatment for a sick or injured wife or child, must be crying crocodile tears for you.

No air conditioning when it was 95 degrees plus every day. And in a room with 3 other people, both male and female. And doctors taking their smoking breaks.

Try selling that type of hospital to the American public, Bernie.

How many people do you know who work full time can't afford treatment for a sick child? Isn't everyone supposed to have insurance under Obamacare?

life expectancy in Italy is 4.5 yrs longer than in the US, (closer to 5 yrs for men), but what could be a worse healthcare gauge than that.

obviously paying twice as much for healthcare than every other industrialized country is paying off big time.

I would imagine the main difference in life expectancy is diet. The Mediterranean diet may well be the healthiest diet on the planet. I think the Italians also exercise at a greater rate than Americans do. Without any data to the contrary, I would put health care third on the list.

They certainly walk more. And they're like mountain goats on those hills.

Good Lord, those hills are steep. And they go up and down them like nothing. Old people, too.

But they do smoke. A lot. So, I'm guessing the exercise helps them overcome that, but when something like this virus comes along, it may play a factor.

People are gasping for air because there's a shortage of ventilators, over 3400 have died, and you're comparing them to mountain goats. You're a piece of shit.
What is your problem? Mad because you throw out 20 a 20 year old article and act like it's current?

Sorry I embarrassed you, but it's no reason for personal attacks.

My impression was that he was using that term as a compliment.

I'd be quite proud if someone still compared me to a mountain goat...;):D
He knew what I was talking about. He's upset because I caught him posting a 20 year old WHO statement about how high the Italian health care system rated. It had Italy at #2 and the US at #37. Anyone believe that?

And then the WHO said they weren't rating health care systems anymore because it was too 'complicated'. So, he made a false statement about the WHO ranking and I called him on it.

still waiting for how much you were charged for a 2 wk hospital stay, and who knows what procedures, in Italy.

sounds to me like you're being a total ingrate snot after getting 2 wks of free, or almost free, hospitalization.

if an Italian got sick or injured here, he would have gotten hit with a $30,000 plus bill, and maybe way more than that, but hey, air conditioning rules.

really dude, how spoiled are you??

you owe nothing but thanks the hospital and the Italian people for helping you.

You can keep waiting.

You know so little about it that it's comical watching you blubber around - per your normal posting style.

60,000 people a yr die from the US not having universal healthcare like the entire rest of the industrialized world.

if American's cared a lick about the health/healthcare of the US, rather than the profitability of our healthcare, they wouldn't be voting that down decade after decade after decade.

You're telling me something I don't know?

We had an industrial dehumidifier installed in our crawl space in January . . . it hasn't quit running yet . . . it's set at 45% humidity, but I don't think it would have stopped if it were set at 55%. It's been raining that much this entire year . . . .

No, I am sure everyone who lives there, or who like me spends a lot of time there is aware of the wet winter and spring. I spend lots of time in Buford.

What brings you to Buford?

When you get down here, I could do a lunch at the Thai Star in Norcross. :D
