They always say that college life was the best part of our lives. So what is it you miss?

1. Cheap alcohol -- those happy hours in Bloomington were amazing. Beer jugs, Margarita pitchers etc.
2. Inexpensive pussy -- nowadays you have to wine & dine and hopefully not say politically incorrect things before you get the good housekeeping seal and nooky. It seems like the older you get the more expensive it is to get laid. But the quality is a lot better after college.
3. Not having to worry about bills as much.

Growing up sux big time.

No doubt I enjoyed college but it certainly was NOT the best part of my life. If it was, I wouldn't have worked so hard to get out of there in 4 years.

Mine was all about the social life. I loved living with my friends for four years.

I have heard this from women more than from men.

My theory is that women have their best years after their late 30s or 40s and after a divorce.

They have been socialised to live the white picket fence life passage of college, job, husband and then kids only to discover that they are surely unfulfilled despite the achieving all these socialised milestones.

That's why I enjoy the company of women after they see their moments of clarity or enlightenment. They don't take shit and yet aren't so worried about the guy being politically correct or saying the 'right things' as expected for women in their 20s and early 30s.
Multiple levels more confident.

I actually hated the dorms. I left home at 13 to go to a boarding school so dorm life was just a re-tread of the same old pranks and activities. Personally, I found it depressing like I was regressing in life.
I preferred off-campus life much more. You could choose who you wanted to hand out or none if you so choose.

I miss the schedule. 3 hours a day of clasd, maybe 4, bang out a little studying, start drinking on Friday at 2....
Amazing to me now, when I start to feel a buzz after a couple beers and generally don't drink more than 4-5, but on Thursday nights I used to sneak a 6 pack into the library and had a count down and would usually drink 4-5 in the last 90 minutes of studying so I wasn't so far behind when I got back to my buddies.

Most of what you said, although I was such an inexperienced and intimidated noob that I didn't really chase women. I didn't want to waste time trying to bed a ditzy broad when I could have been hanging with my friends. Most of which I don't regret, but it was only later that I learned there were cool chicks who liked to hang, and bang! Back then though, a gal generally had to put the full court press on me, not the other way around. And, I had "standards" to boot!

But, what I miss are:

TIME! I could pretty much do what I want and still get passing grades.

Laughs! Hanging out with my friends, and even a boring day would yield a ton of laughs.

Bball and the HPER... daily exercise that was fun; what a concept!

Partying. Often though not the big, loud, crazy parties (although those were fun too) but many times the quieter nights with 5-10 friends. I really value time with friends, even moreso now.

I like my life, but it's certainly not as fun packed as those days!

Simpler times. Your main job then was to have fun.

Pot is like beers for me -- they were relatively weak when I was in college. Nowadays, two hits and I am fecked.

Maybe 10yrs ago, I flew into LA for some work and to see the squirter/phone sex GF -- she bought some bought pot. (She was at USC then.)

It was the first time I had it since college -- man, I was wasted after a couple of hits and for the first time, felt paranoid. (Thought she was going to do a bobbit on me in my sleep!!)
Bad trip.

Yeah, weed has gotten way more powerful, but that's the beauty of dispensaries and legalization. Have you been in a good recreational dispensary? No more guessing what it will do, or for how long, or how it was grown. They tell you where/how it was grown, the strain and what it will likely do, and how potent and long it will last. No more guessing about all these things from what your buddy is selling. Oh yeah, and it will generate millions in tax revenue and for entrepeneurs as dispensaries, growers, suppliers, etc... Now, if they could just keep big business out of it...

Anymore, I only do edibles and it's exactly what I want every time. The only variable is if I try a new product or manufacturer.

Lucky you. The dumb fecks here are stuck in last century and still think it's some gateway drug. Serious crime to be cause smoking and worse selling.

Summers in B-Town were the best. I usually had a 40 hr. work week, but just took one class each session. There were around 15-20 guys at the HPER that you got to know really well since you all played against each other every day, so that led to some good party opportunities.

That's what I miss the most. That tighter knit group of friends and having most everything to yourselves, whether it be the bars, HPER, or whatever else.

That was my experience too. I didn't spend every summer in B-town but a couple. Best semester of the year.
Falls were a killer for me because of the ragweed

I prefer being an adult way over being college aged again. Honestly I wish we had what we have now and I could’ve knocked it out in a couple years.

I was not a partier and found the entire culture obnoxious.

My Bloomington experience was not particularly wild since I was a graduate student in chemistry (PhD 1991) and that involved a LOT of work and not a huge amount of play. I also met my wife-to-be one year into it, so there was not really any period of crazy girl sex. I did manage to regularly take off at least part of every weekend and go out for Friday happy hours.

the things I miss...
-Happy hour cheap beers and fun times. The Crazy Horse was our spot.
-Good food at cheap prices, e.g. Dagwood's subs, Red Chair Bakery, Uptown Cafe, Trojan Horse, Mother Bears, Jankos for a special occasion.
-The used record store that was a door or two down from the Red Chair.
-Pick-up hoops any time of the day or week.
-Terrific bike riding, including the Hilly Hundred every fall.
-Just the wonderful campus, walking and biking around, Dunn Meadow, the sidewalks through the woods, the gazebo, the chapel, the bridges over creeks, the limestone buildings, the Ginkgo trees when the golden leaves were all falling at once, the maples in Fall...
-The coed scenery. OK, my wife-to-be was there, but I could always look.
-The home basketball games ticket package. Hoping that at least one game was a great seat. One year my great seat was basket-height on the end, perfect angle to see Jay Edwards swish the game winner over UM, with the loudest roar I have ever heard in any sporting venue.

I did forget to mention Spring Break in my OP. Went to Ft Lauderdale once with a fake ID and the Keys twice. Good times.
When I had my fake ID, Hooligans was my favorite place. After I turned 21, I don't remember ever going there again.

Speaking of bikes. I think I maybe the only person to get a ticket on a bicycle. Rolling stop plus speeding. I was late to class.

That’s what guys did, not girls! I was only in a dorm one year,, then sorority. Always someone to hang with. I didn’t need alone time then. Could have lived out senior year but didn’t want to. I just ignored the rules and paid some fines.

I miss the almost total lack of responsibility - All you had to do was show up to classes enough to get decent grades and you would still have plenty of time to play basketball every day and hang out with your friends all the time. I guess it's the time I miss the most - seemed like you had a lot of spare time back then.

I miss Chicago Style Pizza especially Giordanos. (Graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago) My youngest daughter was born in Maywood IL while we were there. I told her one day, "Besides graduating from Moody, the best thing that happened to me while I was there was taking your two brothers to a couple of Cubs games at Wrigley". Then I smiled at her. lol She got it. I used to call her, "my little Moody miracle".

I know this is going to get shot down and is lame as fvck... but I actually loved the learning. I had some great profs that opened up worlds that this dumb country boy didn't know were even out there.
Not lame at all; certainly we all learned a great deal in and out of the classroom. Bloomington was the first time being exposed to a lot of differing viewpoints, ethnicities, religions, etc. For a small town kid it was pretty eye opening. As a 55 year old man the things I still remember now are the good to great memories. I'm sure there were things that really sucked to 18-22 year old me, but I have long since forgotten them.

If I knew then what I know now, I might not have survived. Probably would have pushed things to the limit more, and might have went over the edge ;)

The young women.....in variety...

I miss the parties and the activities after the party ended. I worked a part time job through college but somehow found time to study enough and arrive at the parties as they were in full stride. My grades got better each year including all A's my last two semesters. The two semesters I partied the most.

The years after college were special. My first job was a newly relocated department with several young people like me. We partied like we were in college, but we had money and no studying. Then I got married in the second year out of college. Fewer parties, but the quality of the parties increased. My college days ended as we settled down to have kids. 16 - 25 were really fun times.

All you can eat meal plan

Part time jobs gave me plenty of pocket money

Ball games

Chicks, until I met THE ONE, then THE ONE

Youthful ignorance
