What Controls November Mid-Term?

People on the right have a better grasp of what the decision to reverse Roe means from what I have seen, i.e. nothing is banned as of yet and your state and possibly federal legislators will be the deciders, so they are going to be pretty keen on who is doing that deciding, as well.

Will be interesting to see how Holcomb responds. While he's definitely pro life, there are others in the GA who are FARRRRRR right of his position.

Also, turnout usually helps Dems. I guess that's what I'm saying.

Fold in these 2 local stories and re-compute.

story 1 - despite the internet being full of claims to the contrary (and rallies full of speakers/signs claiming otherwise), story on rallies here says 14th Amendment guarantees right to travel, so as states shake out which will be anti-abortion and which will be abortion sanctuaries, Kentucky women wanting abortions will be able to travel to get one.

story 2 - local female former high school choir director gets sentenced for 5 years and lifetime sex registry for having sex with a student under 18 - third degree rape and first degree unlawful illicit sex acts with a minor.

so last week, a 17 year high school kid was legally capable of having an abortion without parental knowledge or consent, but was legally incapable of consenting to sex.

bubba gonna juxtapose

The seemingly purposeful destruction of the economy will rule the day, in my opinion...

The social justice warriors were already locked into their respective voting stances prior to any court rulings...

Having the money to buy enough gas to simply get back and forth to work and then having the cash left over to buy groceries for the family will sway all but the dimmest of the Dems...

That's not even mentioning the personal safety issues wrought by the ultra soft on crime Left...

Well that doesn't leave many. :)

I know a couple of guys on here who will not at all be happy about this! Not happy at all!

Back in Larimer County, Colorado, 39-year-old homemaker Jessica Kroells says she can no longer vote for Democrats, despite being a reliable Democratic voter up until 2016.

There was not a single “aha moment” that convinced her to switch, but by 2020, she said the Democratic Party had “left me behind.”

“The party itself in no longer Democrat, it’s progressive socialism,” she said, specifically condemning Biden’s plan to eliminate billions of dollars in student debt.

I’m thinking about becoming a Lincoln Whig. Being a Lincoln Republican is lonely.

Many people feel this way regarding the Dem party leaving them behind. Progressives really should be their own party

As an Independent voter I am lost on how to vote right now. Despite all the wailing, I am not sure how much Biden actually has to do with the inflation which is global, and he certainly did not cause it in Europe. But he is the president right now and the buck stops with him. The Democrats can't find their rear ends with both hands and a flashlight and the leadership with Schummer is really weak. Pelosi is not weak, but at 80 something she needs to call it a day and I am in my 8th decade and know. The Republican party has turned really ugly with its conspiracies BS and heavy influence of Trump whom I totally reject. McCarthy as speaker of the House is a very sobering thought and 80 something McConnell needs to join Pelosi on the sidelines.

May pass on this one. No, I can't do that.

Pubs will take House due to suburban voters which turned against Trump, but for now will be back in the Republican column.

Poor polling results for Biden show a dissatisfaction in his efforts to lead (inflation, supply chain, signs of aging, etc.) will result in many voters wanting to have both houses of Congress in the control of Republicans to offset what appears to be an incompetent administration.

His position is irrelevant. The legislature holds all the cards on this question.

I think you explain the election very well. Biden is in charge, so the buck stops with him. Yet he has little power over the supply chain snarl and the fact a lot of Americans just left the workforce. So Dems will lose, but those independents would much, much rather vote a Romney than an Oz. So they will hold their nose and vote R. Who knows what they will do in 24.

I agree with a lot of that... Both Pelosi and Schumer come across as a 2 year old that didn't get their way. I don't like McConnell but he doesn't always look so mad. Cruz, on the other hand, looks mad any time I see him.

Yeah, he'll cave and sign whatever they push out. Here's to holding out hope.....
They don't need him. In Indiana they can override a veto with a simple majority. They did it with the trans sports bill. They'll do it again if necessary.

Yeah. But how does Holcomb define his brand here? It might mean something soon.

Inflation, the border, and election security dominate. It will be a bloodbath.

Boy some of you may not want to see this. Abortion and 01/06 not the winners you think they are or even close.

I think you guys are jumping the gun saying it's gonna be a bloodbath.... you are underestimating the Republicans ability to screw themselves up.
I think there's little doubt Republicans make big gains in the House and likely take control. Abortion is somewhat of a wild card as it could impact turnout but, at best for the Dems, it will perhaps mitigate their losses to some extent.

My hunch is Dems hold onto the Senate, largely due to some very shaky GOP candidates (e.g. Walker) in a handful of states.

It's hard to comment, at this early juncture, on the impact of the Jan 6 Select Committee hearings, the federal grand jury that is investigating Jan 6, and the Fulton County (GA) "find 11,780 votes" grand jury. The worse this gets for Trump, the more problematic things become for those candidates who have hitched their wagon to him.

Maybe but 4 months can change a lot in politics. And the Republicans can easily screw up the advantage that they have so I guess we'll see come Nov.

The 2022 midterm House election loss for the Dems with a Dem president would be the fifth midterm election in a row where the party with a president loses the House. GWB in 2006, Obama in 2010 and 2014, and Trump in 2018.

Our politically divided country seems to like a politically divided Washington D.C,

It's better
Liked it better when there were middle of the road folks in both parties who could work across the aisle and forge a consensus which tackled problems facing the country.

Am going back some thirty years before a popular radio show host made all too many of us laugh with remarks such as, "The only thing you find in the middle of the road are dead possums".

What controls?

Easy -- self-interest.

Last time I looked, Real Clear Politics had 7 Senate seats as up in their, with 4 leaning D and 3 leaning R for another 50-50 tie.

The crappy candidates in Pennsylvania are more likely to be the issue in taking the Senate than abortion.
Don't forget Missouri if Greitens gets the nom.

Talk about a soft target.

No one survives this economy politically. It's not something that gets wiped off the news cycle in a couple of weeks as everyone gets reminded of it twice a week when they get gas and groceries.

It's a killer.

The midterms will still be in the sticker shock phase.

As Marv said, the abortion ruling will be much more significant as we go forward.

Smart dem politicians should be able to create a much easier republican boogie man/narrative/culture war now.

'Your parents GOP is dead. It's now controlled by the radical, right wing religious fanatic. They've already overturned Roe and that's just the appetizer. They also want to tell you who you can love, who you can worship, what you can learn in school and what can be said. That's not a free country. Vote against this extreme, radical movement before they take your vote away. Your children will grow up in a country with less rights than you, your parents and your grandparents had if you let them....don't let that happen!!!'

Or something like that.

It's a fight, a cause whatever you want to call it and politically easy fights are rocket fuel for political movements.

It's a fight that isn't going away. Every crazy ass state law will be associated with Republicans.

Political cat nip.

the price of gas is the result of free market capitalism and absence of regulation and anti trust.

this is what "your parents GOP" has been fighting for forever, and what the board economic conservatives from both parties lobby all day every day for.

of course the CORPORATE media will never tell you that, and never have told you the truth about the oil industry, because CORPORATIONS don't behave that way, especially CORPORATIONS that are already anti trust vertically and horizontally monopolistic, collude on price and service standards down the line, and operate what should be an illegal scheme as far as what they sell, and how they do it, especially for what are utilities.

voters are total sheep and total idiots, with most incapable of seeing what's been in front of their face their whole lives, and believe what their favorite media corporation and party tell them to believe, even when it flies in the face of all logic.

and those who complain loudest about the price of gas and inflation from other monopolistic industries 24/7, are the same ones who lobby and campaign and vote for the politicians and policies that led to this, and label everything that would keep these prices in check through market competition and lack of collusion, as socialist and Communist.

these are the same total idiots who think "free markets" are the exact polar opposite of what they really are, and ridiculously high prices from gas to internet/cable to health insurance to groceries are the result of what they've been fighting for and voting for their whole lives, and still never figured things out no matter how many times Lucy pulls the ball away.

Here's the problem with squeezing too many people under one tent. I don't like Greitens at all. I actual don't mind Busch. She's fine. Comes from a family of drunks, murderers, adulterers, and people who live off of vices. I prefer that to the goody goody types. Hell for years her bro's office on the 9th flr where all the execs were just said Polo Player. A good portion of the fam are republicans. Knows how bad crime is here. She supports cops. I'd be fine with her. But she's for amending the filibuster rule and with the progressives who I cannot stand how could I ever vote for Busch? So now I can't vote for a moderate Dem when I've always been fine with mod Dems.

Yeah, but Greitens might actually be a psychopath.

Choices, amirite?

A psychopath may be less consequential re policy. I'd take a psychopath over 6 trillion in free cheese, $10 gas, and social workers for cops
