We're taking in South Africans

I work on some very specialized equipment out of the Netherlands. The company mechanic they send is South African white. He said DEI is so bad he couldn’t find a job. This guy is very skilled. He literally had to go out of country to get a regular mechanic type job. His kids moved to Europe for this reason. Him and his wife are holding out still in South Africa but for how long he doesn’t know. Said it’s getting pretty rough politically and even worse socially.

That sounds pretty horrible.

The optics seem to be that since Elon is from South Africa we're replacing one hard working group of immigrants with another group of hard working immigrants because he bought his way in power and is getting their citizenship fast tracked, however that works.

Is that a good thing?

They took his family property. It’s reparations under a different name.

Have they even confiscated any land under the law yet? My understanding is that both sides hate it. One side worries that the law will be used unfairly to confiscate land from white farmers, while other side thinks it is a toothless law that doesn't go nearly far enough to redistribute land.

Might have to wait to see how it's actually put to use.

I would think DEI in that case would favor whites.

What’s being reported is different than what’s happening. I’ll ask him the next time I see him.

Ugh no. It’s exactly the opposite. I used DEI to explain it. It’s just flat out racism. Taking property from white farmers.
Progressives are so indoctrinated with the horrors of colonialism that even a minority population doesn’t qualify for DEI consideration if you can draw some fragile colonialist line to their last.

Fragile?

Dude - apartheid ended in 1990. Not 1890 or 1790. My wife lived the first 8 years of her life under apartheid rule. People are alive who still have physical scars from that period of time. I mean, the whites HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE MINORITY POPULATION IN AFRICA.

Let's pull back over the center of our skis, shall we?

Nope. Frankly, the 90's in both SA and Zimbabwe were handle poorly. Zimbabwe was 100x worse b/c of Mugabe and his absolute hatred of whites. It would have been like putting McArthur in charge of resolving the "Japan Situation" near the end of WWII and after.

The government of SA and Zim should have been more conciliatory in order to retain the infrastructure and expertise the white farmers had. However, I can understand their lack of empathy.

Tough situation.

it is a tough situation. The Natives Land Act restricted Black ownership of land to about 10% of the total land, and it wasn't the best 10%. So it has proven and is proving very hard for Blacks, even working class Blacks, to own land even today. Just too many people who never had land chasing it.

Yes, I get it isn't fair to people who own the land to be thrown off. But it isn't particularly fair with property to restrict people from it for 70 years and then expect them to magically catch up in a generation, or even two. If we assume Whites want to stay in SA, and want to hand down land, were do Blacks get land?

So it is tough, sadly people love only the two soundbite portions. Whites are having their land stolen, Blacks had their land stolen. I don't know how to get Blacks into ownership AND keep Whites in ownership. That's the impossible dream. Someone will have to figure out how to get there, because I don't see a great path.

Time. Really the only thing following something like aparthied. The people who weren't killed by the Afrikaans government in SA and Zim certainly had friends and relative who were. So really, only time will solve it.

My MIL actually took advantage of the situation and bought a white farmer's land when he left to go back to England. 400 acres. Was a fruit tree farm.

It fell into a bad state about 10 years ago and a lot of the trees died. They are working (my wife is heavily involved) on restoring the farm and it's coming along pretty well. But I think that scenario shoudl be the norm. If the whites want to leave let them sell the property. Create black ownership through a purchase and not a law. That would be my suggestion.

Also, if you put this in Google it will show the farm in Zim. Thanks to Airbus, it recently (last year) got much better over head photos.

I’m glad the Trump lovers here can finally rally around a group of refugees since the ones that are already here have been completely abandoned by our government. Thankfully there are still people working tirelessly (yes I happen to know one) with ZERO funding to continue to serve those who are here the best they can.

What would happen to S Africa if every white person packed up and left tomorrow? Honest question. Doesn't seem like the blacks are thinking this through.
