Really? How so? They're 8 and 1.I know there’s a cadre of posters who seemingly can’t handle it whenever I criticize the women’s team, but if we’re being totally honest with ourselves, they’ve been fairly underwhelming so far this year. Haven’t lived up to expectations…

Caitlin Clarke destroyed that team with that finish at Iowa last season. Why Moren didn't have Holmes chuck that 2nd FT off the rim like a rocket for the guaranteed win is still beyond belief to me. She's been the best women's coach IU will likely ever have but it's still. They were rolling big and have never recovered since.I know there’s a cadre of posters who seemingly can’t handle it whenever I criticize the women’s team, but if we’re being totally honest with ourselves, they’ve been fairly underwhelming so far this year. Depends on your expectations I guess. I do agree though. Last year we had a swagger. Not an arrogance but a swagger of confidence. So confident the team had fun. Nick names - the great Yardini and Big Mac. I don’t see that this year. I think we are missing that second dependable star. Posting up Yardon hasn’t seemed to produce a “twin towers” effect. It has reduced her three point shot taking and last year she hit 45% of those. Sara has had some off nights so her deadly shooting so far has been hit and miss. Syd plays well but so far no one has stepped up enough to play the top teams and play them on the road.I know there’s a cadre of posters who seemingly can’t handle it whenever I criticize the women’s team, but if we’re being totally honest with ourselves, they’ve been fairly underwhelming so far this year. Right. Catlin Clarke with one shot (which happened to be a prayer),single handedly destroyed iu women's basketball. OKCaitlin Clarke destroyed that team with that finish at Iowa last season. Yes. Do youDo you watch the games?
Even an armchair fan like me knew enough to say "do not under any circumstances allow Clarke to get the ball" and that's excactly what we did.Right. Catlin Clarke with one shot (which happened to be a prayer),single handedly destroyed iu women's basketball. OK
They've never been the same since. Just a fact. Definitely ruined last season.Right. Catlin Clarke with one shot (which happened to be a prayer),single handedly destroyed iu women's basketball. OK
Yes. If you really do too and you have any discernment at all you wouldn’t be debating me on this…Yes. Do

Well... Clark and Burger in the back courtEven an armchair fan like me knew enough to say "do not under any circumstances allow Clarke to get the ball" and that's excactly what we did.
Not correct at all. Holmes hurting her knee in the BTT was the culprit. She was hobbled in the OSU game which allowed them to pressure us and make that comeback. She was basically playing on one leg in the NCAAT game with Miami. Otherwise, she's there to help on those drives and rebound, and she probably dominates Miami's goon in the post and fouls her out.Caitlin Clarke destroyed that team with that finish at Iowa last season. You're all right. This team is awesome, but not as good as last year. It wasn't Clark that killed the vibe at the end, it was Holmes' knee. And Holmes has not looked the same this year. She's wearing a brace, but I haven't heard anyone from IU say she's not 100%. She doesn't look 100%, and I think that - more than losing Berger - is what is going to hold this year's team back.
Coach actually made a comment that the game was too close to allow the team to depend on inexperienced players. There were only eight players in Saturday's rotation.Never once did Moren have 4/5 subs in at once…
The womens team appears to have the opposite weaknesses as the men. The IU women are very skilled and play really good team defense, but lack the athleticism to beat the best teams in the country ( or so I fear). The loss of Berger's elite athleticism is pretty glaring so far this season. To add, Holmes was on record in the offseason stating she didn't practice the last 2 weeks of last season due to the injury.
Very laughable to say a prayer 3 that goes down by the best shooter in women's basketball broke a team.
All that said, this years team hasn't played as smooth and dominant as what I was expecting.
Hoping they can rip off 15 straight and beat Iowa.

OTOH, the men have the necessary athleticism but are seriously skill-deficient on the perimeter. The perimeter shooting is atrocious, and without X we are going to struggle moving the ball effectively. And while we have shown improvement of late, this is an inexperienced team that still has issues with effective team defense.
I still think the bigger downgrade this year is Holmes ability to move/jump. Something is wrong. That said, I really miss Grace Berger's play. She could handle the ball like a dude and her shot technique looked Alford-esque, making her the mid-range queen.
And I really wish Grace was back so when Lilly Meister is in the game, they could pass the ball back and forth, forcing the announcer to say: "Berger - Meister ... Meister - Berger ..."
Tis the season!!
Really enjoyed watching the women last year, but haven't watched a bit this year. But, is Sydney Parrish hurt? She seemed like the type of player last year who could get you a bucket. We have very good perimeter shooting. But on nights they don’t fall, we can only go into Mac. When she is doubled (always) or tripled (often) that can be unsuccessful. We need another option. I don’t know if that is a post up Garzon or a playing Lilly and Mac together.
She's fine. Not much of a creator of a shot out of nothing, but tough as nails, good shooter. Not Grace Berger.Really enjoyed watching the women last year, but haven't watched a bit this year. But, is Sydney Parrish hurt? She seemed like the type of player last year who could get you a bucket.
And Larry Bird wasn't DJ, but you could go to him for a basket when needed! Sydney to me watching last year seemed to have a pretty well rounded game and could score inside and out. Much moreso than Garzon or Moore-McNeil seemed to me to have. If I needed to manufacture a bucket and could go to Mac, Parrish seemed like a good option. She's fine. I love Syd, but she's not going to drive on someone and create her own shot. Yarden has the size to shoot over people, post them up or drive and out-muscle them getting to the basket. Driving isn't her strength, but I think she's better at that than Syd. I think most of Syd's paint buckets are off of offensive rebounds or breakouts. And Larry Bird wasn't DJ, but you could go to him for a basket when needed! I'll defer to you, and maybe I'm just interpreting based on Sydney being an IN girl, but I thought she looked pretty versatile last year on the offensive end, whereas I thought Garzon looked like more of the catch and shoot player.I love Syd, but she's not going to drive on someone and create her own shot.
