Could be a make or break weekend in the roto

If Pomeroy is close to being right, then it's good news for Peegs and TBL is in trouble.

I actually like my slate of games despite having only 4 predicted winners. All my winners are prohibitive favorites and I think I've got a shot at upsets in the 6 I'm underdog in...yes, even with S.Car and SMU.

Of the games I have, I'm a little surprised to see Dayton only being given a 19% chance of beating X at home. Not that I think Dayton is that great, but I'd take 5 to 1 odds on them as a dog. It's an in-state rivalry and those are never easy on the road.

Not a good weekend to only have 8 games

Pomeroy has me going 6-2, with Richmond (of course) and IU losing. Considering that the UK and OK games are basically toss-ups, 5 wins would seem a good get for me this weekend.

Duke plays St. John's and WVU has the weekend off.

Need a big weekend to stay close

I honestly feel that if I can get to within 5 of the leaders going into the conference tournaments I've got a good shot as I think I can make up some ground there. So I need a solid late push to get there and it starts this weekend.

Charlotte at Temple- this is a likely loss but would be huge for me to get the upset W here

Oklahoma State at Texas Tech- probably a toss-up game but with TTU at home I like my chances

Hofstra at James Madison- a near lock W here

SMU at Rice- a close game but being at home I think Rice gets the W

UIC at Loyala- my only shot here is that there is a letdown by Loyala after the big Butler win

Ill State at Northern Iowa- should be a W here

Auburn at Alabama- should be an L here

Appalachian St at Elon- near lock W here

Toledo at Western Michigan- this is a must win for me as I'm playing someone who's ahead of me in the standings. I have the better team but they're on the road

Arizona at Arizona St- time for the Wildcats to start playing well and they have to win this game

So I have 4 near lock wins, 3 that look pretty good, 1 that I have an outside shot at and 2 certain losses. If I can come out of the weekend with 7 I may still be in the mix.

Don't look past the Redbirds!

My 7th best team is on a hot streak. Okay, you can look past them. It's an interesting thing when your 7th best team is 6-11. Read interesting as depressing/sad.

This makes sense when your selections have combined for a 61-78 record. The Rolo leaderboard of woe:

1. AZ State 1-14 (Again, I thought we were doing a baseball roto draft at the time)
2. Penn State 1-12 (I expect them to upset the Illini this weekend. Why I don't know)
3. Cleveland State 2-13 (Mouse McFadden must be rolling over in his grave)
4. Ill State 6-11
5. Arkansas 5-8 (Is it Arkansas or Arkansaw, why 2 options?)
6. Missouri 6-7 (A late rally)
7. Georgia Tech 6-7 (Also rallying late to a degree)
8. Pitt 11-2 (I think this team has gotten by on smoke and mirrors. They aren't that good)
9. Rhode Island 10-4 (A 10th round gem)
10. Winthrop 13-0 (Doesn't deserve to be on this sad roster)

I think Penn St might upset the Illini too

You'd think last week's incident would be weighing heavily on the Illini, and they might start to implode.

I'd actually rate RI as your best team from a sheer value standpoint. I don't know how you, BRS and CJ always find someone good late. I've had exactly one good team (Wright in year 3) from the last couple rounds in all 6 years of the roto.

You may be right on Rhode Island.

I give Winthrop the nod largely out of respect. They won me over altogether with their Bracket Buster win. Check out their schedule. They are within a few possessions of being undefeated (which would also mean some huge non-conference road wins).

I'm impressed with Sampson but Marshall would have been a great get for IU if they made the choice to go with a mid-major last Spring.

Sampson was the safe choice.

I think Greenspan wanted someone he knew that absolutely would win. Maybe Marshall has a higher ceiling but he didn't have a long enough track record for us to be absolutely sure.

Think about it in terms of roto draft here. With those early round picks you don't want to draft too much on potential when there are plenty of known good teams around.

Or you don't want to be drafting a team like Dayton, who showed some nice early results, over a proven commodity like BC or Kentucky with the first pick in the 4th round. That would be dumb.

Oh, I guess I did that.
