I know rosters aren’t finalized but I’m curious to see how everyone thinks the conference looks at this very moment.

my personal opinion

tier 1 (3 seeds or better in NCAAT)

1a - OSU
1b - Purdue

tier 2 (3 or 4 seed in NCAAT)

3 - Maryland

tier 3 (5 - 7 seed in NCAAT)

4 - Michigan
5 - Indiana

tier 4 (anywhere from making NCAAT to NIT)

6 - MSU
7 - Iowa
8 - Northwestern
9 - Illinois

tier 5 (NIT hopefuls)

10 - Wisconsin
11 - Nebraska
12 - Rutgers

tier 6 (bad but upset potential)

13 - Penn state

tier 7 - (free wins)

14 - Minnesota

Flip Maryland and Purdue and put Michigan in Tier 1 and it's not a bad list

A good list, but it’s wildly optimistic to put us at 5th. Everything has to fall just right to get to there, and that’s generally not the case with a program that requires a complete cultural overhaul.

Indiana added more talent than they lost while the teams 6-9 on my list lost more than they gained. A few weeks ago I would’ve had MSU up with Purdue and Ohio state but losing Watts and Henry hurts bad. They’ll need Christie to be as good as advertised

I place a much higher value on program culture as a huge key to winning, and ours needs a complete rebuild. Love Woodson, but culture creation takes time.

Outside top 6 (MSU is my guess at 6) the conference looks pretty weak, but still road games are always tough.

Michigan has to be in the top tier. Maryland is tier 3 or lower imo.

IU will likely see more guys on the floor that weren’t a part of last years negative IU culture. Sure we have other key guys from a losing program, but I would think that for most everyone it’s going to feel like a fresh start, especially after the COVID season. Fans in the stands and enthusiastic support will be very helpful, too.

Hope you’re right, but rebuilds usually last longer than most fans expect them to.
