Crappy that we’re now #11 which is the last team in. Better impress on Saturday. I’m not sure “just winning” keeps us in.
not sure just beating Purdue makes us a lock, need to beat them decisively, hope the weather doesn't make it an ugly low scoring game
People giving IU crap about SOS and there sits Alabama the second team out,these committees need to be investigated.
If we don’t win by 35+ they will replace us with Clemson or Alabama.
The committee clearly is not laser-focused on SOS. Also, our SOS jumped about 50 spots (to 51) as a result of playing OSU and, as they just indicated on the CFP show, it will probably only drop into the 60s as a function of playing Purdue.
Warde Manuel just said the committee was "impressed" with some of the things Indiana did in the OSU game, and that we're deserving of this still-high ranking as a result of our "body of work."
Beat Purdue convincingly and WE ARE IN! Period.

How so? We’re literally the last team in the field. If Clemson beats Carolina handedly and we done blow Purdue out, the committee will swap us.
I wouldn’t count on the committee moving any conference championship game losers down/out of the bracket.

First, because we're still in after losing by 23.
Second, I pity the team that has to play us after our first loss.
Third, Purdue is the worst team in the Big Ten and one of the worst in FBS football. There is no way Cignetti won't have the boys ready, there is no way we will stumble, and we will WIN CONVINCINGLY.
Fourth, we just got big-time praise from the selection committee chair. They're not going to swap us out if we win by a good margin Saturday.

This is a good result for us. It means if we take care of business against Purdue, we are in. If we don't, then we don't deserve it, anyway.

No thank you. There are no where near 16 teams deserving to play for the championship. Last thing we need is for the football season to become even more meaningless.
Let me counter that the other side of the coin….why not reduce the NCAA Big Dance to 32 teams? Same argument. Filling up that tourney with teams with double digit losses is meaningless. It just cheapens the field. Why sould a 10 or 11 loss team get in?
Because 15s beating 2s and the occasional 16 beating a 1 (I'm looking at you, Purdue) is one of the most exciting occurrences in sports.
Never take a game for granted. But from what I saw from Purdue last week, They look like They can't get out of their own way, and are just showing up and playing out the string. if We beat them, there will be enough SEC carnage around us to keep us safe. Tennessee plays Vanderbilt. Georgia plays Georgia Tech. Clemson plays South Carolina. Texas plays Texas A&M. None of those are give Me's By the time the smoke clears, You could have one of the participants in the SEC Championship game coming out of it with 4 losses. you could also have A&M beat Texas and get to the championship game ahead of some of these other teams. It is likely that one or more teams from the SEC will play themselves out of it..
I expect p u to attempt to play their only complete game of year in an attempt to keep us out of the Playoff and soil our season... It's what they do... F--king up other teams seasons is what they're most proud of... Let's not let them do it to ours...
They have weapons we just need to not give them any opportunities to utilize them...

Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois and that should severely penalize them.
Clemson has two losses and no quality wins. A win against South Carolina would make things interesting but they should still be out.
The Georgia/Georgia Tech and Texas/TAM games could be interesting too.
Overall, I don't see IU being pushed out unless the committee wants us out.

I don't know what they'll attempt to do, but they are a bad football team. Putrid, actually. As Goat said, if we can't beat them down, we don't deserve to be in the CFP. That said, I'm not at all worried.
Texas AM could steal a bid, and Clemson could jump us. Texas and UGA will be in no matter what, I bet.

Couple of things. I listened to Warde Manuel, AD at Michigan and selection committee chair, tonight. The committee does not want us out.
Notre Dame's loss to Northern Illinois was very early in the season, and they've been outstanding since then. That loss doesn't carry much weight now.
Penn State is probably benefiting somewhat (a few spots) from the fact that they're a traditional power.
In Basketball teams can have off nights and get beat. There is a reason 15 and 16 seeds have won games. Didn’t we just see a 15 seed go to the Elite 8?
In football, the small conference tournament champions aren’t beating the top programs. Ever.
There is also a ton more parity at all levels in college basketball.
That's a great way of looking at it. If IU can't beat PU decisively at home then we'd be better off playing a lower bowl game somewhere. Anyone with talent at PU probably has their bags at this point.
All y'all who think all IU has to do is to beat Purdue are just wrong. IU is the LAST team in now. If IU only beats Purdue 21-17, then it will be viewed as a severe liability. A close win, coupled with either (1) a TN stomping of a decent Vanderbilt team, or (2) a Bama stomping of an upstart Auburn team, or (3) a SC stomping of Clemson (or even vice-versa), and IU will be left out.
OTOH, if IU wins by some number of points, my guess is 21, then IU is a lock no matter what else happens this weekend or in the conference championship games. Anyone with a guess of less than 14 is wearing crimson-colored glasses.

I think the consensus is that IU needs to win convincingly. I don't think you can - - or need to - - put a number on that.
And it's not out of the question that a "close" win is still enough. Like we saw last week, a lot of this hinges on what other teams do.
