Politics sure makes for strange bed fellows.

At a minimum, we now have the following interlopers supporting ISIS in Syria. Turkey, Israel, USA, Ukraine.

And before anyone says they aren't ISIS have a look at the HTS leader background Mr. Jolani. $10M bounty on his head per FBI.

Assad wins no beauty contests but we are compounding one error after the next.

Ah, good ol' realpolitik. I guess it even exists in the age of Islamist nihilism.

How are we supporting them? You're not the first to claim here we are, but I can find no evidence whatsoever on my own that it's true.

Because we don't support Assad, who opposes them? I think that's Tulsi's take.
So these guys are just repeating what Tulsi says?

I mean, I get that we don't like Assad, and they don't like Assad, but these guys have been a designated terrorist organization since they formed. They aren't our allies by any stretch of the imagination.

Me either. Haven't seen it.

It makes sense if you believe "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" literally and absolutely. Otherwise I'm stumped.

Yea not a good look for Ukraine

Brings even more instability to the tinder box… not sure this helps our agenda, other than a slap in the face to Russia and its allies.

Just read today's news Goat. We are continuously bombing Syrian reinforcements entering from Iraq as Hama was being overrun.

I don't pay attention to who Tulsi is or what Tulsi says. She has no principles like many politicians. My principle is that I will support a secular regime over an Islamic State any day of the week. Frankly, I would be sending troops to back Assad as this very moment. Our presence in Syria is not only against the US Constitution, but is treasonous in my opinion.

We are going to see an ethnic genocide in Syria with all minority groups having their heads chopped off by ISIS. I'm not some big crybaby about Christians, but they will be slaughtered. Secular people who do not wear hijab for their religion. Where are the evangelicals in this country demanding we defend these people?
Yea not a good look for Ukraine
They have units in their armed forces who fight with neo-nazi insignia on their uniforms. I'm hardly surprised they would back groups who throw homosexuals and Jews from buildings.

Israel makes some terrible miscalculations this being one of them. A stable Assad is in their interest more than these monsters. We really blew it by backing the wrong side initially and we compound our mistake. These people are complete monsters, animals. They cannot be reasoned with. All they understand is death and violence. They are worse than the Ayatollah by a magnitude of 10. Have a look at today's Taliban and double the magnitude. Women in burkas. No school.

I don't know of any other military or air force in the world that operates A-10's. So in this case, we are against the Iranian backed Shia who are backing Assad against the basically ISIS groups (and others Syrian rebels of varying degrees of Islamic radicalism that we back) and that is leading us to bomb the Assad allies as they are moving to reinforce against these ISIS types.

All of these people suck. I honestly think that we are kind of lined up against the wrong side. I don't like any of these folks, the best option would be to stay out. I don't like even tangentially backing these head chopping psychos.

So the argument is that military support is essentially fungible, and even if we don't support HTS directly, by opposing Syria and its allies elsewhere, we indirectly help them?

If that's your argument, I can see it. Best just to not be involved at all. Or in fact, maybe we should actually quietly offer Assad some support.

In this case? Yes. Is that always the case? No.

Yes this.

But not this. The Assad side is not great also, however with Russia and Iran aligned with them, they likely have plenty of backing to "win". I don't think we always should feel compelled to choose a side.

I'm not sure how much help Russia will be at this Putin. Iran may need to send regular army to Damascus on jumbo jets at this point. I doubt that would be very popular in Tehran right now. HTS is evidently very well equipped by Turkey with the latest and greatest drones.

One can dream... Assad eliminated in a couple by a general with enough gumption to rally the general populace. US starts bombing the correct side. Get the damn nukes out of Turkey!

The last 30 years for the trillions spent and blood lost we've been on virtually the wrong side everywhere. We could have stood in place and done better for ourselves.

Once these monsters get done with Damascus I suppose Lebanon is next.

We abandoned the women of Afghanistan. We botched Libya and Iraq. The women in Afghanistan part really bothers me. Does democracy mean anything to the people of this country? Or it's only a convenient talking point.

The only thing these monsters understand is a bullet to the head. Under no circumstances can you negotiate with them.

Good luck to Europe with the refugee flow should Assad fall.
