U.S. Political Party Preferences Shifted Greatly During 2021

Largest shift in Gallup history. You'd have to be pretty far gone to not recognize the ineptitude of this administration and the rhetoric we're getting from the Dem Party.

Infighting has reportedly struck the White House after President Joe Biden’s approval rating submerged to 33 percent.

Much of the infighting is attributed to Biden’s Chief of Staff Ron Klain’s decision to keep Biden from being amongst the electorate in a “pragmatic” way, NBC News reported.

Hidin Biden!!! Klain runs the show anyway do does it really matter

It also tells me that moderates have no use for Trump and wanted him out. Part of the swing is that many voted for Biden because “anything but Trump.”

The GOP is nuts if they run that clown again.

Yeah for sure. The election was a referendum on Trump. If you don't think the GOP is nuts you must not read this board. With each passing day I think it's becoming more and more likely that Trump gets the nod. I'd say hopefully Desantis nuts up and takes him on, but DeSantis might be as nuts as Trump. Depressing. Might be a good time for you to get that place in Portugal. Couple of my buddies just got back from vacationing there. Loved it

LOL! that shifts back if the pubs have control of both Houses and nominate Trump as their candidate in 2024. An overturn of Roe v. Wade will cause a shift, too.

Eh I'm not so sure about that. Maybe. I tend to think it's more a reaction to the move left and the aggressive policies put forth both at the federal and state/local levels in keeping with same. That's a policy issue more than a people issue. Again I'm not sure your take is on point. As I've posted before if Biden pivoted like Obama/Clinton back to center I suspect you'd see his approval rating and that of the Democratic Party rise.

Regardless your LOL is misplaced. Those are facts today; tomorrow is just your partisan speculation

Maybe it's more "Dems promised but haven't delivered".

People just want shit dealt with and don't give a rat's ass about all the politics or even the "policy". Inflation? Fix it, goddammit. Covid? Make it go away. Health care? Gimme mine; the others can get theirs too as long as I've got mine.

I hope, for the sake of the country, more people start to ween off of the political parties. It will reduce party power and certainly create more political volatility, but I'm okay with that.

That to me is the two trillion dollar question. "Dems promised but haven't delivered." That's what AOC would say. That's what she pointed to in the VA race - that they didn't go far enough left. That they were too moderate. I think the opposite. I think that the lion's share of people don't want what the Dems are pushing. It's not that they aren't getting it over the finish line; it's that it's not wanted. Voters wanted sanity; not a mandate to go nuts with policy

Trump and whatever peoples thoughts but he did more on what he said he would do than we have seen in a long time. Maybe a long time is a shorter time with just the mass of those who dont even attempt to do what they said. Does AOC actually have anything for normal people today or stuff they will long be dead for?

I’m not even sure people don’t want what the Dems are selling. They just don’t want it overnight or bundled into some god awful bill with a disingenuous premise. And AOC probably would blame the Dems because she’s too shortsighted to see she has to gather votes from somewhere and it sure as hell ain’t Pubs. I’m beginning to think she really doesn’t want to get shit done or just has no clue how to. Also, I’m wondering if she’s just a PITA to deal with on a personal level. Like Tommy said the other day, relationships and being able to work with people gets you ahead in the corporate world. I’m sure the same rings true in Congress

Yep, and would be even wider margin if they went away from the circus clown. That point went over your head which is not all that surprising.

A lot of people want to vote Republican given the current climate, but could never pull for Trump.

He could easily win vs whoever the dems run, but it would be a landslide with another GOP candidate. Trump only makes it closer and leaves the door open for a GOP loss.

Funny how some of you are so far up your own bizarre asses to recognize a lot of people want normalcy, and if that’s a GOP candidate not named Trump, fine.

If he gets elected again, some wild regrettable shit will happen. Regretable for each and every one of us.

Any one making a single entry (voting a straight ticket) and pressing the cast vote button loses the opportunity to deny some undeserving rascal out of office by voting for his opponent. It’s self-defeating behavior.

There is more than enough mud-slingin’, demagoguery, narcissism, deflection, projection, gaslighting, and numerous other rhetorical tricks and platitudes — who can blame anyone from walking away to avoid guilt by association. … from either party.

The party that best articulates what they are for ... and why … without leading with (or emphasis on) racist or communist name calling (to name but two) will have the best chance to win in 2024.

I am such a person you’re referring to. My vote is always available for both parties. If the election was today, and the choice was pretty much any non-Trump Republican, I’d vote for that person all day long. If they were a solid, coherent, decent human being…I’d probably actively campaign for them.

If it ends up being Trump, I’ll either not vote, or hold my nose for Biden.

And your party could have run almost anyone but Hillary and Trump would be an afterthought by now.

And depending on who you believe Hillary might very well be the current frontrunner for the 2024 D nomination. Some parties never learn.

Not exactly sure what you’re babbling about.

I don’t have a party which is kind of the point which you continue to miss.

You don’t want a normal, civil society. You want drama.

If Trump runs, whether he wins the nomination is not easily controlled. The irony is that while many want more democracy, it is more democracy that nominated Trump. Unless the GOP follows the ant-democratic Democrats with their super-delegate baloney, the candidate with the most delegates from primary voting will be nominated. What will make it worse is Operation Chaos that Limbaugh fooled around with during the 2008 campaign. Except the Democrats don’t see that as a joke. The Democrats have a record of crossing over at the primary level to support irrational GOP candidates. With so many states now having open primaries, many Democrats would vote for Trump in those primaries.

As I keep saying, we have too much voting in the country.

I'm starting to think Trump DeSantis with DeSantis next in line to run in 28. He is young. Crazy train

Seriously though there's not a lot any president can do about a lot of our problems. The present admin could quit trying to spend like crazy and if the Rs take over there won't be much change. JMO

If we gotta have Trump, I’d like to see Pompeo as VP. VP for DeSantis would be a demotion. But I hope Trump can be convinced to step aside. The GOP has a deep bench with the likes of Haley and Scott. I still think Romney would be a very good POTUS.

I tend to agree. And I said as much on this board in the past. But the public view and status of the POTUS has evolved in just the last several years. Many people and many in congress invest a lot of emotional capital in POTUS. The huge negative reaction to Trump is a result of that. I don’t get it. A prime example is the Pelosi/Schumer (and other’s) nonsense about BBB. They acted like congress had a duty to pass it because that is what Biden wants. Pelosi even said failure to pass it would embarrass Biden. So what? Since when does congress have a duty to do the President’s bidding? That is not part of separation of powers.

You mean like getting rid of all the massive regulations to create all those jobs
Getting nato in order
Getting back out of the Paris climate crap that lines all the politicians pockets.
Getting control of the border again
Standing up to China and fair trade with them
Record unemployment
Got 7 million off of foodstamps
Brought back manufacturing
We were an energy exporter for the first time in 70 years
We were energy independent
Gas was low

Sure he was a pain but he stuck to his campaign promises.

Maybe u didn't Ike the way things were going?

All Biden has done is take ALL of that away.

He won because of HILLARY. Every conservative on the planet and prolly many democrats knew how crooked she was. Nothing added up. Never forget the debate when Trump looked at the hill and said "because you would be in jail". Her face. Ohhh

Really does not seem so.

GOP Primary:

Trump 53%
DeSantis 13%
Pence 9%
Haley 4%
Romney 3%

*Trump has a commanding 81% Approval with Rs. No other Repub even comes close. In contrast, Biden has souring Dem support and stands around 48% among Ds.

General Election:

Trump 49%
Biden 44%

Trump 51%
Harris 40%

Trump 51%
Clinton 41%

Per McLaughlin & Associates.

Trump *never* led in popular vote polls in either 2016 or 2020. Oh, boy...🤓

He will win. He's better than the other candidates. Trump keeps his promises unlike other politicians.
He would kill any dem. If they did not think he could win the dems would move on and quit losing their minds over trump. They are clearly scared he would win or they would beg him to run.

The key is how long will it last. I still submit that the win by Youngkin in VA will be hard for the GOP to duplicate in other purple states due to the nature of GOP Primaries, and the wackos that are going to emerge from some of them...

And while the overall shift for the 4th quarter put the GOP on top 47-42, the article provides a cautionary tale for people who read beyond the headlines...

"The GOP advantage may be starting to ease, however, as Gallup's latest monthly estimate, from December, showed the two parties about even -- 46% Republican/Republican leaning and 44% Democratic/Democratic leaning." I think the more Trump is in the news and the more issues like the attempt to confiscate voting machines come to light, the more Dem numbers will improve...

Yeah yeah, he just got his ass beat by a wide margin by Biden and Harris. How did that happen? The majority of Americans hate him that’s how.

“Everybody loves Trump! My polls say so!”

He lost by 43000 votes with mass mail in voting during covid. You do realize the popular vote does not win you elections? I guess you dont. But whatever I am sure the dems want nikki haley. She would get destroyed

Again the dems ahould be begging trump to run since the dems on here seem to think he would get just destroyed. So why the trump obsession still? It's odd.

They would be more nuts to run a sure fire loser like nikki haley. The rural vote isnt turning out for her.

It will last as long as the Dems continue to show no common sense. Has zero to do with Trump. It's about the Dems own version of crazy, which at the moment is nuttier than Trunp when it comes to policy.

Ugly will be in Nov when the Pubs take over the house and start their retaliatory investigations. We are in for a long 3 years of BS.

You bring up the popular vote, which I never mentioned, then ask me if I realize the popular vote does not win you elections? Lol, that’s really dumb.

306 to 232 is all that matters, and he got smoked by “the worst admin in US history”.

Your point about the bundling is 100% valid,

Maybe a Democrat President with a clear majority could bundle some controversial matters with some popular matters and get the whole bundle enacted. But Biden didn't have a clear majority.

As analogy, Trump had at least two years with Congressional majorities to enact a strictly-old-fashioned infrastructure bill (roads and bridges) but he didn't succeed. Maybe Biden should have done that, keeping the more controversial things separated into other bills. This would at least have allowed Biden to say he clearly succeeded where Trump failed in legislation that was directly comparable. I think everyone recognizes the need for roads and bridges, and it's hard to vote against them so long as other social issues are not intermingled into the same bill.

Patrick Healy: How many of you would like to see Biden run again in 2024? Show of hands.
[Nobody raises a hand.]
If nobody raises a hand, no one will lift a finger for Biden. Raising the middle one does not count.
This comes as Biden’s approval continues to plummet.

A poll from Civiqs found Biden’s approval only at 34%.
