I'm opposed to sanctions period. Whether Iran, North Korea, Russia, Venezuela, or Sudan.
1. Unilateral sanctions are ineffective.
2. Sanctions hurt regular people, not elites. When prices rise, it's the poor and middle class who feel it. They also bolster the regimes stability internally. Patriotism.
3. Sanctions increase the risk of violent conflict.
4. There is little research/empirical evidence for the effectiveness of sanctions.
5. These specific sanctions are a violation of international law.
Cuba is the epitome of sanction failure. Progress comes from free trade and the flow of ideas, not walls.
