Just when you think the far Right can't get any more demented, they invite Orban to Texas as the special guest for the latest reiteration of CPAC...

I'm sure that this is basically returning the favor of the previous meeting in Budapest where Orban welcomed the American PACsters as heroes and celebrated their common dreams. So the invitation was likely issued months ago. And as the video points out, pro-Orban Hungarian groups likely put $$ in the pocket of Schlapp and other CPAC organizers to get Viktor on the bill...

But you'd think that in light of Orban's recent blatantly racist screed which even one of his own long time advisors resigned in protest over and characterized as "pure Nazi text worthy of Goebbels", Schlapp's bunch would have at least expressed some level of uncomfortableness. Instead, the crowd welcomed him with open arms and cheered enthusiastically culminating in a standing ovation... Interestingly, Orban met with his bosom buddy Trump at the Saudi Golf course Trump owns in NJ, a few days before moving on to Dallas...

This guy epitomizes the (white) Christian Nationalist movement, and basically occupies the role the US far Right assigned to Putin prior to Ukraine. I know why he's popular with some on this board, but I wonder what the appeal is to Republicans that say they are opposed to authoritarianism and value Democracy? He's been the dictator of Hungary for 12 yrs...

For those who might have missed it, on July 23rd Orban vowed not to let Hungary become a mixed-race country

And lawdy, don't get him started on the gayz...

Today they had Steve Bannon AND Mike Pillow on the menu...

.

How do people defend this? Are there no longer any boundaries?
They can't .. so they minimize it into "fringe" or dismiss it entirely as liberals being paranoid.

The GOP has a racist, misogynist, homophobe, Nazi problem. Most will never admit to it and there's more than just a fringe element that support those ideas.

It is not good to be a Jew in Budapest. The Indianapolis Jewish Community is sister cities with Budapest Jewish community and we hear many of the terrible things happening there. Our country should not ever support this regime.

You know, racists, misogynists, homophobes and nazis are people too. Even they need a place where they feel accepted. A place where they can be themselves.

Yep, all those conservatives who want smaller government, fewer laws, and get hard ons for the Bill of Rights are a beacon for authoritarianism😉
I'll ask again. What is it about this authoritarian leader that fires up people at CPAC?

Ugh, he's a homophobe, a racist and a fascist?

Instead of asking them to twist themselves into a pretzel of parroted bullshit excuses and lies, why not just take their actions, deeds, votes, and comments into account?

They are showing us exactly who they are.

Those who support or make excuses for a fascist, or applaud one, are generally fascists. There is no other answer and none of these fools are going to admit to it ..

Time to quit pretending they're something else.

Actually many people who consider themselves conservative would say that the Trump MAGA crowd don't believe in any of those things at all. Not sure how you can advocate for a single religion or claim that there is no enshrined separation of Church and State and then characterize yourself as having a "hardon for the Bill of Rights"...

So Kari Lake made a grand appearance at CPAC. I think this is a HUGE mistake, because it doesn't gain her any votes she didn't already have, while at the same time it makes her even less palatable to the type of Independents she would need to win in Nov. Non-MAGA people are horrified at the thought of the GOP endorsing a despot like Orban, so imho visibly showing at CPAC does not help Kari's campaign...And seriously she's accusing her GOP Primary opponents of "fraud", before she has even faced off against any one outside of her own party...

Two other thoughts about this video, Rick Scott is NOT running for re-election this year ,and Marco Rubio who is running is not speaking at CPAC. Also look at the way MI Tudor Dixon is walking back her 2020 fraud claims, when she knows she has to try and expand her appeal beyond the delusional Trump base...

The evolution of CPAC. People once viewed as "too extreme", now lead the clown parade...Just an example of the exact type of events that are allowing the GOP to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...

I don’t even know what CPAC is and to be blunt think your question is dumb. I responded directly to @ButHerEmails silly caricature of a conservative.

Conservative Political Action Committee. A product of the Tea Party movement, they've always been fringey, but the latest iteration(s) have become deranged.

Trump is on there live right now. I can't watch. He's bat shit crazy.

But that’s definitely not who conservatives are these days.

Then those people (assuming you characterize their positions correctly) wouldn’t be conservative. Is it really that difficult to figure out? Also, stop linking CNN. It’s frying your brain.

Thanks for ruining my evening. I had a sense of pride for not knowing, which has now been crushed 🙁

Conservatism doesn’t change. So, no, your post is wrong. The answer is those “people” aren’t conservative.
Like it or not, they've claimed the mantle and seem to have gotten away with it. People like you and Aloha and Ranger and the like have been shunted aside.

I was reading something the other day and they said federal government discretionary spending was around 3% of GDP in the 1930s. It’s around 27% today. The idea of fiscal conservatism has been dead for many decades. At least I have my Bitcoin. None of those a#%hats get to inflate it away😄
