Trio Of Hoosiers Earn All-Big Ten Honors; Gassion Named to All-Defensive Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Basketball placed a trio of players on the All-Big Ten teams - the most for the program since 2009 - and also earned a player on the All-Defensive team, as the conference office announced postseason honors on Monday.

Junior guard Tyra Buss repeats with an All-Big Ten First Team selection from both the coaches and media, becoming the first player with back-to-back first team honors for Indiana since 2001-02 (Jill Chapman). Junior Amanda Cahill also repeated with All-Big Ten Second Team honors from the media and first time selection from the coaches. Senior guard Alexis Gassion picks up her first ever honors with an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and became the first player since 2009 to earn a spot for IU on the five-member All-Defensive team.

Buss, who repeated her first team honors from a season ago, leads the Hoosiers with 18.6 points per game to go along with 4.9 assists. A Wade Trophy watch list and Naismith Trophy Preseason Top 50 honoree, Buss became the second player to register in the top 10 of points, steals and assists in school history. She is also the third player to ever record back-to-back 500 point seasons in program history as she has scored 540 points this season. The Mt. Carmel, Ill. native leads the team with an 81.1 percent clip from the free throw line and averages 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 steals and shoots 41.6 percent from the floor.

Cahill was selected by both the coaches and media to the All-Big Ten Second Team, averaging 15.0 points and 9.2 rebounds this season. She has scored in double figures in 28 of 29 games, including the last 18 straight. Her 11 double-doubles are a team-high and also averages 2.9 assists, 1.7 steals and shoots 48.2 percent from the floor, 38.8 percent from 3-point range and 79.1 percent from the free throw line. The Clyde, Ohio native was also selected as this year's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship award.

Gassion became just the second player to ever earn All-Defensive honors for IU, joining Kim Robinson who did so in 2008 and 2009. She was also a coaches and media All-Big Ten honorable mention as she averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She leads Indiana with a 2.9 assist to turnover ratio and dishes out 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

The No. 4 seed Hoosiers are set to open play at the Big Ten Tournament on Friday, March 3 at approximately 2:30 p.m. They will face the winner of the No. 5 seed Purdue vs. No. 12 Illinois or No. 13 Nebraska at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The game will be live on the Big Ten Network.
