Transfers

As of yesterday afternoon, 8% of D1 basketball players had announced they were transferring. That's with 2 weeks left in the NCAA tournament and the coaching carousel just heating up.

It would be naive to think nobody would transfer from IU, even if we had had a great season and gone to the NCAA tournament. 40% of D1 players don't finish their sophomore year with the school that recruited them. Since nobody transferred last season, it would be a statistical anomaly if that happened two years in a row. (I missed Curtis Jones & Grant Gelon in my original message)

Throw in the fact that IU has had regular turnover all the way back to the Knight era, and it's likely someone will go.

I believe Curtis Jones transferred last year but certainly understand and don’t disagree with your point.

One would think there would be a transfer or two this year.

Just off the top of my head...with no insight other than that which we can all read and these are not prognostications or even what I, as a really engaged fan, want to see per se...just a list of suspects from what I've been reading:
  • Devonte
    • It seems he was ready to bolt in December...not sure if he's set to graduate
  • Moore
    • He seems like a project to me. He may decide the juice (working into the rotation as a senior...which is not a guarantee) isn't worth the squeeze.
Race/Damezi...I feel like they have a trajectory and can really help this team in the future...I hope they're both getting ready for a strong and dynamic off season...I just have no "tea leaves" to even formulate conjecture...I would be surprised to lose one (or both)...

I fully expect transfers.
Which will give Archie the ability to upgrade the roster with shooters.

Archie and the staff will meet with the players at some point to lay out a plan for their off season workouts. I would expect there to be an evaluation of the role the players will likely have next year.

There is only one player that I would expect to take a hard look and decide if he can ever move into the rotation or go someplace else that would allow him to play. It is unlikely the player has an NBA future, so he may decide his IU education would be better than wherever he might transfer'.

There could always be a player that is unhappy and decides to transfer. We will just have to wait and see.

if we don't have transfers, we will be in trouble next year that is for damn sure.

and even with transfers, bringing in a 5th year guy doesn't guarantee anything....hence Fritz...It's going to be interesting to say the least this summer, but I don't have a great feeling we will be much better next year unless Hunter actually plays and plays amazing.

Juco, Freshman, grad transfer shooter wanted.
Nobody needs a shooter worse than IU.
Immediate playing time.

You are correct and I also forgot Grant Gelon. I was looking at the period from the end of last season until now. Gelon was gone before Archie's first season began and Jones transferred mid-season. My fault for not being more thorough.
