Transfer Summary

DeAndre Williams of Evansville made an unexpected entry into the portal today.

He’ll have 2 years of eligibility and was the best player on UE’s (awful, other than the UK win) squad this past season. He missed most of the latter part of the season with a back injury. But he was pretty solid before he got hurt.

Williams has already cut his list to Kentucky, Arkansas, Baylor and Memphis. His stats look great, 15 ppg, 7 rpg and shot .65/.45/.80. Then again, he's only listed at 190 pounds and was inconsistent throughout the season. He didn't have a good game against Kentucky or SMU and his stats are boosted by a few big games against bad teams. Would have liked to see him in Bloomington, but not a huge loss. Look at what Ryan Taylor did after leaving Evansville - not much.

That’s an impressive list of options. Never thought I’d see the day that transfers from programs like UE would end up at some of the top programs in the game.

Taylor started every game for Northwestern in his one season there. His production was unsurprisingly down from what he did at Evansville. But he did average about 10 a game.

Another UE transfer to a P5 program — Dru Smith — also started every game at Mizzou this past season, averaging 32.8 mpg. He did very well: 12.7 ppg / 4.2 rpg / 3.9 apg.

That said, I don’t know how fair it is to evaluate a player based on how other transfers from the same program fared at bigger schools.
