...will develop some shooting range this off season and IU will challenge for the regular season title.

Mark Jewell says hello
I played against him, graduated the same year. Never understood how he got that title. Hell, I thought Bert Street at Twin Lakes Kirk Manns at N Judson were better players than Jewell. He was Mr. Basketball and didn't even make any of the Parade All American lists that included 40+ players.

I was out of state at that time. I assumed it was a NCC thing.

Miller Kopp needs "feet set" 3 pt attempts. He avg 3.5/4 a game and I see IU edging out B1G title
True, he shoots much better when his feet are set.

If 3.5/4 is makes and not attempts, it would make him one of the national leaders in makes per game though. He needs to shoot 6 and make at least 2+ if he's going to play minutes.

Pretty high bar you set for him .. probably not going to happen.

He is going to be released soon. Overseas I assume by the end of 23’.
Cav, What's your take on this which was posted by an insider on the other board?

"Small poolside update came through this morning. Hope you all are having a great summer.

Per conversation, JHS is the best guard on the team and it’s not even close.

Malik Reneau is better than Race all over the board. Kaleb Banks also.

Talk about Bates was good as well.

My take after that info, this is Woodsons deal to screw up. This is one of the better assembled teams as IU has had in a long time. As long as he puts the best 5 on the floor no matter their age/year, the trajectory is up. Otherwise, future recruiting will suffer."

they actually like Romeo, time will tell who told you they were going to release him?
I have said this since the middle of the year when he was here. out of the NBA after 5 years. I have zero inside info or knowledge on the situation, but sure seems to be positioned to be released.

The other site is known for crazy unrealistic hype. I think the freshmen class is going to be very good, but we have some really good guys coming back. There is no chance JHS is better than X right now.

Irrational and mildly paranoid. Smacks of the same rationale that was employed to justify shoehorning Lander into the line-up even though he was clearly over his head. All Woodson has to do is win and recruiting (which seems very well in hand) will take care of itself.

pop actually likes him, one of the reasons they let Murray go

Offensively their skill sets very well may be more advanced. That may hold true of many in this freshman class.

That doesn't mean they know the offensive sets, when to cut, where to cut, when to screen, the defensive schemes, when to trap, where to position, when to hedge, when not to, when to go under or over screens, where the help rotation comes from ...

90 mental to 10 physical. Some guy said that once and that was what he was talking about. They have the ability, do they have the knowledge?

Those things, not just talent and skill, will decide who plays and who doesn't.

Race will be hurt and can't play half the season. can't wait to see Banks game.

Never heard of him. Wasn’t he at the Atlanta bombing?
I was. I would sit every night at the Coca Cola plaza watching the highlights of the day.on the big screen. My wife had passed away a few months before the Olympics and was staying with a friend and his family during that time in Atlanta. By chance I had to go home because my son was selected to play in an All Star game and by the grace of God the bomb went off close to where I would sit every night. I guess it just wasn’t my time.

Experienced leadership matters in a situation like this.

TJD, Race, Kopp and X bring that.

I think Leal will push Kopp this year, but I don't think either one will start.
So what's your predicted starting 5? Just seeing how committed or "loyal" CMW was last year to his starting 5, I think someone's going to have to come in and take the spot away from Kopp; especially if he gets back to a better shooting percentage. Given that practice last year, I'm sort of expecting XJ, TB, TJD, RT and MK as a starting 5, but won't be surprised if JHS starts over TB. I've wondered if MR is really coming on if they might try and sell RT on being a 6th man and backing up either spot, but again, I feel like CMW is loyal to his players and wouldn't do that unless it was a clear difference and if RT is endorsing and supportive of such a move. I don't really care about starting spots anyway as I think minutes and who's on the floor to end games is more important.

The Kopp decision is the one i have my eye on. He brings leadership and experience which is important but he has to get his shooting to where it matters.

Dumb.

Just kidding, that's actually smart.

Leal is training and practicing at the 1 and 2 spot. If anyone is pushing Kopp it will be Bates, JG and Banks. I would say trey but he’s going to be less than 100% for awhile.

They are probably behind defensively too.

OT: *1996 Atlanta bombing. Coming back from Florida vacation... Took 6 hours in the 6 lane Atlanta traffic just to get through Atlanta.. Bad memories

I agree on the leadership being important but I actually think AL may be as good or better as a leader. He is definitely the best leader IU had on the bench and I for one think it translated to the floor in the few games he played.

I absolutely agree. I see AL and Kopp competing for the sharpshooter position similar to Zeisloft.

I think it will be Johnson, Bates, Schifino, Thompson and Davis. With JG, KB, and MR getting lots of time as well with either Leal or Kopp.

Mark Jewell says hello
I was thinking the same thing.

I was talking with him at the Evansville Basketball Academy while my daughter was working with a shooting coach. We got on the subject of Mr Basketball candidates when I blurted out that I had forgotten he won the award. He said I wasn't the only one and it was a weak year. .

A few years later. Jewel's son and Marty Simmons' son played for Castle. Sons of an Illinois Mr Basketball and an Indiana Mr Basketball.
