TJ: ??? Assistant Coaches

TJ: Have the final assistant coaches been decided?
Sorry I missed this originally. The answer to your question is, no. We know Drew Adams and Kenny Johnson are working and have been instrumental in helping build the roster. We know that Mike Bargen (Bradley) will be working as some sort of offensive coordinator/analyst that will not count against the five assistant number. We know Nick Norton came with Darian DeVries from West Virginia and is likely to be one of the five assistants and Garrett Sturtz came with him and will be in an administration role. That leaves two open spots and there are only two names that have been remotely linked. One is Justin Bailey, the associate head coach for Sam Houston State with significant ties to Lamar Wilkerson and a pretty solid resume beyond that. He's known as a defensive specialist. The other name that has been peripherally linked is Mike Ekanem at Oklahoma State. Beyond that, it appears that DeVries is going to fill the roster and then turn his attention to finalizing the coaching staff.

Yes. How was it obvious? Def looks like a statement to me
Since Hoosier Huddle has taken over, content on this site has been top notch. It’s actually (sometimes) the first place I see “breaking news” regarding the staff or players. That didn’t happen often prior to them (unless you just don’t look anywhere else for info).

Does the OP actually think HH wouldn’t report on new staff hirings. They’ve made it a point to do exactly that.

The OP has a history of starting new threads with questions that could be asked in a current, active thread, that addresses that exact question.

It’s as if he/she needs special, direct confirmation from the staff.

I know you’re a little upset because I negatively responded to one of your, “we need bigs” comments. It’s not personal. We all cheer for the same team. 🙂

I posted on the premium board this morning that I was told by three different people that I trust...Rod Clark was being hired by IU. Clark is currently at Tennessee and is known as a really good recruiter. He's an up and coming coach and what I was told this morning has picked up steam since then. Really good hire, if it gets finalized.

Dang... I think CDD and company have done a fine job, thus far, recruiting...but stands to reason having a guy like Rod Clark, 2-3 weeks ago, might have been pretty helpful???

No matter what, sounds like a good get though, if true. Maybe he's the guy that delivered Nate Ament, and he can get him to IU?

That’s great news. At the same time, if it's true, it’s a bit unfortunate we couldn’t have hired him a month earlier to leverage his contacts for next season’s roster. Assuming the rumors are true and Goode is returning, that leaves just one scholarship spot to fill. If I’m not mistaken, Javon Small didn’t join WVU until the summer, so maybe DeVries still has one more big move up his sleeve.

Yea. May have been a contract issue? I don't know.

Nate Ament? Was Clark the main reason he chose UT I wonder?

Hopefully these assistants are as good at teaching as they are at recruiting.
Just a sense I'm getting...DeVries is confident in, and wants to primarily use, his own teaching and coaching abilities. With Adams, Johnson, and then this Clark fella, he's choosing to surround himself with guys that will effectively go get him the best types of players he wants to coach.

Mike Bargen is a very respected tactician and player development coach. I think he'll play an important role and I know DeVries trusts the teaching ability of Nick Norton as well.

Maybe Clark will have absorbed some of Barnes defensive coaching chops? And until someone shoots it down, I'm going to dream about Clark and Nate Ament being blood brothers, and Ament flipping to IU.

In your best Marv Albert voice...BANG!
