This is the Commander in Chief

This is a good article. First, it proves that Trump couldn’t exist without the Fox News feedback loop. This fear porn has to be pumped into viewers veins.

I think it also explains why the Trump supporters in this thread simply deny the the story is true. All the other hideous aspects of Trump are acceptable because they are so scared of Democrats. But attacking the military? That’s a tough one to swallow. These same people hate kneeling during the anthem because it disrespects the military (in their minds). So what are they to do when the POTUS calls service members losers and suckers? As we seethis thread, they will simply ignore it or deny it happened. Regardless of evidence to the contrary.

I wonder if any Trump supporters will start to wonder about what he says about them in private.

Why Trump Supporters Can’t Admit Who He Really Is
Nothing bonds a group more tightly than a common enemy that is perceived as a mortal threat.

BINGO!

No time to see the American Marine Cemetery, but plenty of time to go art shopping. CLASSIC Trump.

Edit: On further review, he just took what he wanted. Jesus.

Exactly. But what do you expect from a guy who uses money from his “charity” to buy a painting of himself?

I'd actually have more respect for COH if that was the case, but it's not. He's voting for Trump because Republican, plain and simple.
When Clinton was president, character mattered to CoH.

When Obama was president, deficits and national debt mattered to CoH. Oh, and he criticized Obama for being the narcissist-in-chief.

Today, CoH finds Trump distasteful, but likes Trump's policies. I hope you can make sense out of that mess. I can't.

It's simple. Republican good. Democrat bad.

CoH falls into the same bucket as the vast majority of Conservatives now. Deficits and fiscal responsibility matter if a Democrat is in office. Character matters if a Democrat is in office. None of those things matter when a Republican is in office.

Trevor Noah did a parody on Trump recently which I thought was pretty amusing:

😂 😂

I still can't believe how many people were suckered by the con-man four years ago and still are. The Infomercial President.
He will be a transformative President if he gets to stay for another four years.
And I am thinking Trump Casinos -- where the chances are stacked overwhelmingly for the house and yet you can fail. And not just once.

Unique 'talent'.

Don Junior's take on sacrificing...

"Meanwhile, it also took two months for me to realize the enormity of what my father had accomplished, and the weight of the job that he’d won. It was the day before the inauguration, and we were driving into Arlington National Cemetery, where he was to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I rarely get emotional, if ever. I guess you’d call me hyper-rational, stoic. Yet, as we drove past the rows of white grave markers, in the gravity of the moment, I had a deep sense of the importance of the presidency and a love of our country. I was never prouder of my father than when I watched as he stood before the tomb, his hand over his heart, while the Army bugler played 'Taps.'
"In that moment, I also thought of all the attacks we’d already suffered as a family, and about all the sacrifices we’d have to make to help my father succeed—voluntarily giving up a huge chunk of our business and all international deals to avoid the appearance that we were 'profiting off the office.'"

An apple doesn't usually fall far from the tree once again. The Heroic Trumps.

Among my poly-sci nerd friends in undergrad, we played a game of “where’s your line”? The object of the game was to determine where each ideologue’s breaking point resided in supporting their party’s potential nominee...not to support the other party’s candidate, but to at least to leave the Prez line blank, or vote 3rd party.

To play the game, we’d start by asking a Democrat “ok, you have an imaginary Dem nominee who scores 85+ on the ADA scale. But let’s say they have a history of abusing women. Would you still vote for them?” If they still voiced support, we’d add one more repellent factor atop their character resume and continue to do so until they finally relented....”ok, if he abuses women, praises Communist dictators, befriends mobsters, snorts coke on camera, and tells jokes about autistic children at press conferences, then maybe that would be 1 step too far and I’d pull my support”. The idea was to sus out the exact point where the straw breaks the camel’s back.

In Trump, we have the very kind of imaginary candidate we’d use in our game back in the day. A formidable mountain of amoral grotesqueries that force you to truly examine what is (and what is not) important in a chief executive. Cheating on the wife with a Playboy Bunny...then cheat on said bunny with porn star...and pay off both through his crooked fixer would seem almost too cartoonish to include in our games. Taking the word of the Russians over the US intel agencies...on Russian operations against the US would have been equally laughable to use. Slandering POWs, mocking the disabled.....

And yet, here we are, with many supporters still some indeterminate number of absurdist episodes short of their own breaking point, assuming they have one.

“All of those things are probably true.” Jeffrey Goldberg when asked about the revelation that Trumps flight WAS actually grounded because of weather that day and not because Trump requested it.

Uhh, that’s quite a bit different than what you wrote, Jeff, old buddy. When you start out with such a blatant lie, why should we believe anything else in that article?

I just started reading Disloyal by Michael Cohen and within the first chapter Trump is calling Don Jr. a "loser" and how he didn't want really want to share his name with him with while Don Jr. is sitting in the same room. Obviously the book was printed before this story came out about the trip to the French cemetery. Who knows for sure if the revelations are true in the Atlantic article but apparently Trump speaks like this about almost anybody when he is angry.

What a dad. Bankruptcy king calling his son a 'loser'!

John Bolton says the account of the cemetery trip in the Atlantic article is “simply false”.

So, we have John Bolton and something like 20 other people familiar with the situation on the record saying either that it’s untrue or they heard nothing of the sort. We have Jeffrey Goldberg himself admitting that part of it is false. We have the FOIA documents proving why the trip was canceled.

And we still have no one willing to put their name on this horse turd of an article or provide any proof, ANYTHING, that would give any sort of credence to it.

So, what happened here? It’s sure starting to look like The Atlantic published a hit piece designed to damage Trump. I don’t know what else you’d call it.

Trump was right. Enemy of the people.

Oh it was definitely a calculated strike.

There are rumblings that there is more damning evidence that's going to strategically drop.

We'll see but my guess (and my hope as I can't stand the orange fraud and would laugh my ass off at a Straight Dave level switcheroo betrayal with his most loyal) is that some Trumpers are nervous about those rumors.

I would have thought more would have strongly come to his defense.

Maybe we're just desensitized to Trump madness and know that if you just wait, unlike Covid, it will just magically go away.

... or there is more coming.

There may be more, but if there is and it’s legitimate, they are idiots for dropping this nonsense first.

Oh, I don't know . . . if you're not sure about the legitimacy of a particular story, then to legitimize it you slip it between - or prior to - other unassailable stories. Then it becomes more believable, but really serves more as piling on rather than making the substantive case.

Apparently, the folks in charge of releasing this stuff believe in the communications theory of recency, rather than primacy, in the context of a presidential campaign.

Makes sense to me . . . .

It’s not inconceivable that Trump is behind dropping fake news. It gives him the opportunity to expose a hoax and it desensitizes the voters to real news.

Serious question for you.

Do you believe the allegations? He’s demonstrated that behavior in the past. Don’t forget that several other media outlets verified large portions of his reporting as well.

Including...Fox News.

You can attack the author all you want. Maybe the weather WAS bad. What prevented him from being driven that day? The other world leaders seemed the make the small trip without any trouble. I’m sure that if DJT really wanted to go, he would’ve gone. Perhaps if there were Russian hookers there he would’ve gone? He seems to really like those (and I’m not referencing Melania).

Don’t forget that it would be fairly obvious to DJT who some of the sources were. They clearly were VERY bothered by his actions/behaviors/words, and felt that they had to say something now. And it goes against their training and experience to say something about the commander in chief. Yet they did it anyway. Why would they do such a thing?

It amazes me the lengths some folks will go to discredit the obvious. Isn’t that tiring at some point? Can’t you just admit that “owning the libs” is more important to you than admitting that your president is a steaming pile of refuse?

Or, maybe having more very slanted to the right judges is what makes you tick. Or, you support his draconian immigration policies. Or, you support ballooning the federal deficit. Or, you think trickle down theory actually works. Or, brown people scare you.

I’m not saying any of those are “your trigger”, but obviously something is making you ignore just how horrible of a candidate DJT is. The justifications are amazing.

I’d respect you more if you just said that you’re going to support him because “X” is the most important thing to you. “X” is important than all of the madness that his presidency has brought us. Or maybe there’s a few “X’s”.

Another question. What about DJT makes you weak at the knees? Instead of trying to defend the indefensible, can you tell me why he’d be better than someone like Biden? Keep in mind that Biden is not someone that the democratic base loves. He’s a centrist, and always has been.

I’ve tried to understand how someone can vote for DJT at this point. I really have.

Enlighten me please. Either tell on why DJT gets your vote this time around.

So even Fox News personnel are confirming this story.

I'd bet it has more teeth than gums at this point.
If real players come out on record and confirm, he’s probably toast

Classic Disinformation Campaign... We'll see more..., a lot more...

Trump might be the easiest mark ever targeted by this sort of thing.

All they have to do is use his real indiscretions/gaffs mixed with "anonymous sources" turning small to medium things into "bombshells" that are difficult to impossible to refute (due to anonymous sourcing plus a grain of truth) and leak them closer and closer to the election and then it all comes down to simply what the public is willing to believe leading up to the night before Election Day...

He's screwed, in my opinion...

Throw together the Democratic Party, the Chinese Communist Party, assorted Billionaires, along with the bulk of the media who hate him and you have an unlimited supply of this stuff...

He's royally screwed when it comes to this sort of thing since he's given them so much to work with (the useless grain of sand that a pearl is created from sort of thing)...

This post proves beyond all doubt that Trump supporters stuck in the right wing media bubble truly have no idea what is happening in the real world. This is really concerning.

Some people are just slow on the uptake.
For even with 4,731 incidences, lies, corrupt practices or racist statements just isn't enough to enlighten him.
Where there are problems, there are opportunities.
I am sure a dozen of us here will be able to sell him a bridge or two.

'Indiscretions and gaffs?" That's not how I'd characterize this four year shitshow.

Everything in The Atlantic story is more than plausible because of who Trump clearly is and because of everything he has already said and done. In this regard, while Bolton said he never heard Trump say the things attributed to him in The Atlantic piece, he added "I haven't heard anybody yet react to say, 'That's not the Donald Trump I know,'" and "it's certainly possible" Trump made the comments "later in the day."

Generals Mattis and Kelly are in a position to deny much of what was attributed to Trump in The Atlantic. Kelly, in particular, could immediately put to rest the story that Trump said - on Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery - "I don't get it. What was in it for them?" because he was with Trump when the comment was allegedly made. He could simply say, "Never happened." His silence, and that of Mattis, is deafening.
