Good scouting report, thanks. She sounds like a starter for sure. Maybe as a true C. If we can find a true PF maybe we could pick up some offensive rebounds and second chance points.I like what I see from Coffey, but I'd be very surprised if she starts at the beginning of the year She's kind of a clone of Chloe MM in that she does a lot of things very well, but probably isn't elite at any one skill. It would not surprise me if she was the starter later in the year though, as she knows how to win and is very unselfish.
I'd be very surprised if Maya starts at any time during her freshman year. She can really shoot the ball and she can handle a little, but she's thin and somewhat gangly. She's skilled but not all that athletic. Maya was ranked 40ish out of HS and Coffey 70ish, but I'd swap those rankings as freshman. Maya may have the higher upside as she can bomb it and is 6 3.
On the highlights I saw, Socka is physical and aggressive around the basket. Uses both hand to finish pretty well. On the highlights she didn't take a shot outside a few feet from the basket. She has moves and handles it pretty well near the basket.
Poor FT shooting always worries me about other shot percentages. Ali did really improve Lexi’s FT shot, maybe she can help.I've watched a couple sets of highlights about her and I'm not sure what to think.
One thing I am pretty sure of....she doesn't have blazing speed. She is quick, and on the highlights I saw, ultra aggressive offensively. She wasn't much of a distributor. She likes to shoot 3s and pull-up jumpers, and also to take it to the basket. On the highlights I saw, of course, she was very effective at all 3 layers. But I would say, especially with regard to the long pull-up jumpers, that they weren't high % shots. She remined me some of our men's freshman, Tucker, who was so fond in HS of taking contested turn-around jump shots. When he came to IU that didn't translate to a decent shooting %. I could see, if given the reins of a bad team like Arkansas was at the end of the year....poor results in terms of shooting % and assist rates.
I think TM must feel that she can harness and control her aggressiveness, and why other high D1 schools would be willing to give her a look. It may be that she was able to get away with a lot playing in the Netherlands that aren't productive in high D1 basketball.
One other thing......she has a nice looking shot. I would think she would be at least a 70% FT shooter rather than the 52% she made at Arkansas.
I have no problem with the girls using makeup for the games. With today’s NIL, social media, game streaming, etc they are just trying to maximize their image (money). Seems reasonable to me. LSU has an assistant coach whose job is to help the lady basketball players develop their brand. Sounds like a great recruiting tool to me. We should do it.She fills the babe need, now that Parrish is gone.
