and good players, mind you.....one couldn't be faulted for wondering if IU actually wants to win 6 games or give Wilson an extension.
The process that led to the suspension does not take into account a student's participation in athletic contests or a coach's record when determining whether the suspension is warranted..and good players, mind you.....one couldn't be faulted for wondering if IU actually wants to win 6 games or give Wilson an extension.
I just want IU to play the same game everyone else is playing. If what I read here is correct, then it is something that won't be even dealt with for a few months. Why suspend the guy for actions that have nothing to do with football? If you are going to suspend him, at least wait until the process finds him guilty. If he is guilty and the penalty is expulsion then fine.... but do it after the season. It's not like IU can just plug in another top player on one week notice. Maybe it will work out on the field.... but Latham has been solid in the 3 games he has played in, and there are other things to consider which are bigger than one student's run ins with the academics ethics police. (Bowl eligibility, practices and experience, recruiting, VC donations and having happy alum football fans going to a bowl game after Christmas, national exposure as a winning program for a change, money, TV gametimes etc).
Is he suspended from going to class as well? If so, maybe he will just leave the school now and play somewhere else next year.
I'm not aware that the estimated length of his suspension or the specifics of the ethics protocol are known, so any speculation should be taken with a grain or two of salt. I consider academic integrity to be a greater priority than bowl eligibilityI just want IU to play the same game everyone else is playing. No one here knows any / many of the specifics, but IU should have a high bar where academic integrity and responsible student conduct are priorities over athletic contests, bowl games, booster donations, and happy fans.I just want IU to play the same game everyone else is playing. Are you serious? My god, I want to win etc as the much as the next person, but if you were an AD, you'd turn the football program into UNC in a month.

UNC goes bowling every year.
I would love the rest of the nation "demanding" the death penalty for IU. Means IU is cleaning their clocks. Besides, no one is going to get the death penalty. Not PSU, Miami, UNC, USC, O$U, UK, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. (I'm sure I missed 50 other examples over the last 20 years)I'd rather not have the rest of the nation demanding the death penalty
Give it a rest. UNC has been dealing with an academic fraud scandal for a couple years now. You would implode our AD if you were in charge.I would love the rest of the nation "demanding" the death penalty for IU. Means IU is cleaning their clocks. To programs like those, most of which are successful Schools of Football, they absorb the costs of doing business as winning football programs, and keep on winning.
IU on the other hand, will apparently always have self-righteousness. And not much else.
Also, the Department of Student Ethics > the AD. Not exactly sure what you want Glass to do.
Did some Department other than the Athletic Department suspend Latham? Is it a school rule that Latham be suspended from football? Or is it a policy? Is he allowed to go to class or participate in other extracurricular activities?
I laid out what I think should have been done. Let Latham practice and play unless and until he has been found guilty of something after due process. If he is found guilty, then by all means mete out appropriate punishment. It's not rocket surgery.

What if he continues to play and it's later ruled that we used an ineligible player? Could that result in forfeiting wins??Did some Department other than the Athletic Department suspend Latham? Somebody take BayernFan's wife....please.This thread reminds me about the thread of attempted rationalization of: "when is it acceptable to punch a woman". Some people just don't get it.
I have a wrist band that I live by. It has WWWD on it. "What would Wabash Do".I just want IU to play the same game everyone else is playing. It's a good thing we have you to tell us with your deeply insightful posts. This thread reminds me about the thread of attempted rationalization of: "when is it acceptable to punch a woman". Some people just don't get it.
Wilson had nothing to do with this suspension.I don't blame Wilson one bit for the suspension. He had to send a message that if you break the rules, no matter how good a player you are, there will be consequences. Considering our recent history, do you blame him? He's already on the hot seat for not winning enough, has a chance to have a successful season, and help right our football ship to a degree. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't bank my job on Darius Latham. Let's not forget, we celebrated RMK when he disciplined players who violated team rules. Plus Knight had higher GPA standards than the NCAA. And we loved it. Remember Alford being suspended for a game for posing in a sorority charity calendar?
It was a ridiculous rule. Knight probably could have fought it and won but didn't.
Instead he suspended Alford for the big KY game, which we lost. Our two most high profile sports teams have been in the news for mostly the wrong reasons in the last decade which has been embarassing. Enough is enough!
What? That doesn't make sense. Everyone that's been suspended has violated rules and got what they deserved. The only difference between IU and other programs is that most other programs can absorb the issues because of talented depth. IU really doesn't have that luxury. IU Wants to extend Wilson, win 6, win a bowl game, and get going forward. Not really the University's fault that kids are boneheads!and good players, mind you.....one couldn't be faulted for wondering if IU actually wants to win 6 games or give Wilson an extension.
Doesn't matter...the guy is suspended for breaking a rule. If the guy was innocent wouldn't CKW have defended him?Wilson had nothing to do with this suspension.
You claimed he sent a message when, in fact, he had nothing to do with it. And he's been accused of "breaking a rule".Doesn't matter...the guy is suspended for breaking a rule. If the guy was innocent wouldn't CKW have defended him?
Maybe the "act" was indefensibleBut again, where is Wilson defending the kid?
