the Mormons just raised the bar

Damn. The old one year NIL record was probably $2.5M or something like that. This is about 3x that. I guess we’ll see if he is worth it… still a team game.

Juan Soto just signed a $765 million contract for 15 years with the Mets. .285 career hitter. The world has truly gone mad. Freaking .285 hitter!!

NIL is going to really go crazy.
We all grew up in the wrong era! If I had these NIL opportunities 25 years ago, I woulda tried to make any kind of sport! Now ima probly have to work til I’m either 90 or dead!

In American Legion BB I had a high batting average and could hit for power. My dream of a MLB contract died the night we played a team from Sullivan or Terre Haute. Too long ago I am not sure. Charlie Noble was the pitcher and had signed with the Reds. There were a few scouts there. I batted leadoff and hit for the cycle that night. The scouts told my coach I was too slow. They told him they could teach kids to field and hit but not run. My bubble was burst and I started thinking about what I wanted to study in college. 😂

how would you like to be the all-time home run leader for acc school, and go undrafted because your arm didn't meet mlb standards

I thought so. Too long ago. Lol.

I don’t know if he ever made it to the Big Leagues.

A year or two earlier we played Don Mattingly and his Evansville Funkhouser Team. They had a 6’9” pitcher that was the best I ever faced. I don’t remember his name or if he ever signed a Big League contract.

I was told batting average doesn't matter.

(except if, you know, you want to hit well)

it doesn't matter to Kyle Schwarber.

He consistently hits .200 w an OBP of .350+ and 40+ HRs. Even w that avg, he led off.

As a BYU alum this just blows my mind. I know their football team is a big player in the NIL world too. My biggest problem these days is that I really like Mark Pope as a coach and am having a hard time cheering against him at UK. I wish IU played that offense

I know Charlie, one year younger than me. Went to the reds and hurt his arm and never made it. Drink a few occasionally.

Stoll , who did you play for in high school?
North Daviess.

Edit thought I might have chance for scholarship but had horrible start to my senior year. I can’t remember exact numbers but I started the year grounding or lining out to SS and 3rd like 25 or more times consecutively.

Not to hijack thread Stoll, but I remember being at North Daviess Hs when the new comers barnstorming tour went there in 2007.. I remember ELI Holman sitting on the bench (Being from Oakland) and an amish family walked by and he has a confused look. lol He looked at Jamarcus Ellis and they both laughed.

BYU to sign the #1 player in the country for 7 million, assume that's just for his 1 season in Provo
No way, he is the 1st to stay all 4 years of college & get paid more each year. That could be 30M for playing 28-30 games a year. Before he even gets to the NBA.
