Had a chat with Detroit King WR Rashawn Williams today. Not all of it was on the record, but I can give you an accurate summation of where things stand and where they might be going.
Rashawn still wants to make a decision this month, but it sounds like it will be late in April. Five teams seem to have emerged as the primary contenders: Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Syracuse. He visits Cincinnati this weekend. I asked specifically about Indiana and Purdue and said there was some buzz that they might be the top two right now. He said he is in contact with both schools daily and things are definitely good there, but quickly mentioned other schools and I'm not sure it's a clear-cut top two.
Now, a couple months ago Michigan looked to have a strong edge here, but since Josh Gattis came in as OC the communication has fallen off and I don't see Michigan in the picture at all for Rashawn right now. This obviously brings up the question about why an in-state school would not be going after a Rivals100 prospect, and the answer is I do not know. The Midwest is loaded with top WRs in this 2020 class but Williams is our No. 1 at the position because he possesses playmaking ability at a level higher than all the others and has the size/speed/athleticism combination you look for in elite receivers.
No other visits are planned beyond Cincinnati this weekend, but Rashawn is looking at possibly taking more trips before a decision. Continue to keep an eye on this recruitment.
