This seems to be the PR line of the week from the Biden admin. A MAGA over here a MAGA over there, MAGA everywhere. All the R’s in congress are MAGA’s. MAGA people are dangerous. Even Psaki is getting in on some MAGA with a grin.

What do the Coolerites think about this tact? Is the belief that the only person more unpopular than Biden is Trump? Scare those suburban moms away from the midterms if you say MAGA enough times?

It strikes me as exceedingly dumb and transparent. Whoever is doing this Admins PR needs to be shit canned.

eh. It’s just dumbness stacked upon dumbness. The concept of MAGA has been great for laughs. We were told basically 5 minutes after Trump got elected that America had been made great again and then 5 minutes after he was out of office America needed desperately to be made great again. To put that in perspective, cold sores take longer to develop. So I’m told.

My take is we're coming into key mid terms and the 'uniter' has seemed to finally realize that it ain't happening with a certain sect of republicans.

So he's using the long time tactic that the Republicans/Trump have perfected.

Create a simple boogyman with simple traits, blame them for all of the problems (victimhood) and motivate the voting base by using fear tactics against that group.

By attacking MAGA instead of the whole party, he doesn't offend those that do not consider themselves a hard core Trumper, or he can say that.

Doesn't bother me as I'm tired of playing defense, it's easier to play offense.

Biden's biggest public issue is he looks weak and not in command trying to placate too much.

Identify an enemy and attack it.

Oldest political campaign play in the book.

He's an imbecile. Gas is going to be over $5 a gallon in flyover country soon and everything will keep getting worse. The Dems need an absolute miracle or this is one of those once a century type of massacres. Watch for a possible chemical weapons attack by the CIA/FBI I mean Putin in Ukraine this summer.

He has a ton of other ones. He can barely string two words together anymore. He was stupid before the dementia started taking hold and it has gotten a lot worse. He doesn't care., been grifting off the Govt for 50 yrs now or he would probably have been working in a gas station somewhere. I don't think he really even wants to be President and some days likely doesn't know he is.

The Chem attack... I could see that. There is a very good reason the Dim's have been visiting over there recently and it sure as hell has nothing to do with the interest of AMERICA.
This is a very very long coupe. ..... that the republicans/trump has played out, according to that Cracker.. hahahahahahah Kevin Hart isn't that funny. or delusional.

Pelosi may well have been securing her Vodka supply and masking the trip so the Govt could pay for it.

Yeah, Bidens biggest problem is a “certain sect of Republicans”.

Keep telling yourself that.

Make America Great Again was sure better than Hillary's sloganless campaign. A dull campaign built around just holding onto her pollster lead.

As a result Dems didn't turn out to vote, and folks worried about their future heard the MAGA message as giving them a hope for a positive change in their lives. Hillary represented a system of government for the establishment as did the GOP candidates opposing Trump. In other words more of the same.

Trump by contrast of the establishment candidates who were taking us in the wrong direction offered hard working Americans a return to what made America great. A promise which can be put back on track by electing him in 2024.

Interesting. I think most Republicans would claim that they’re the ones usually playing defense. The conservative position is defensive by nature after all. Democrats try to shift the culture and when conservatives take notice they claim “GOP Culture Wars!!!!!”.

That’s why on the rare occasion when republicans go on offense (see DeSantis/ Disney) Democrats respond like such whiny bitches. They’re not used to getting their own medicine.

Tired of playing defense? Where? When?

The progressive left of the Democrat Party has been on offense since Joe set foot in the Oval Office. The problem is that their offense is based off bad strategy and poor weaponry. Biden and the left's plans for America were Russia invading Ukraine. The right pushing back is a defensive posture. Just because they won does not mean they are on offense...yet.

The left has been on offense. The problem is they were stupid. No more, no less.

how is the conservative position defensive by nature? lmao

You call dems socialists, communists and put out political attack ads that have dems in crosshairs but conservatives are defensive in nature.

Your dear leader was on the offensive ever since he put his name in the hat in 2016.

Defensive LMAO hahahahahahahahhahahahahaha

Hoodat asked why he's making MAGA a thing lately and I gave him my thoughts from a political strategy standpoint.

When things are bad you play offense.

The posters who responded with disgust are never in a million years going to be won over. On top of that they are the most aggressive of the republicans at throwing the mud. They 'hate' the left the most.

What's an easier political message....explaining the nuance of global inflation and the plan to tackle it (releasing the reserves, making deals with other oil nations, calling out oil companies for price gouging, raising interest rates, raising new car gas efficiency standards, etc)

or

Create a boogieman that represents the right extreme and scare people that they are violently coming for you as they try to take us back to the 1920's)?

Offense vs defense, especially when defense is currently weak economically.

If you hear Biden say 'inflation under Trump would have been 80% like in other authoritarian countries!!!!' then you know he's gone full Trump offense.

The GOP politicians and leadership rile up the faithful by telling them they are on the defensive. In addition, if the party supporters let their guard down the country will end up losing the common culture which made us great. On top of that, big government given Dem control would eliminate the free market along with individual freedoms.

Following in the footsteps of the GOP author Kevin Phillips, it is my contention the Democrats have been slowly losing out since about 1969. Today the Republicans control most state legislatures, most rural areas, and the Supreme Court. All three branches of the federal government could very well be run by Republicans come 2024.

I agree in regards to policy.

I meant offense in political messaging.

The democratic political message as long been trying to portray a uniting, empathetic, cool and calm, welcoming message.

The problem with that is it's difficult to use scare tactics and ugly smears. That's not uniting or welcoming.

Republicans, especially seeing Newt's success and influence, leaned in on grievance politics.

That being said, Trump took grievance politics to a whole new level and continued as president (which was unheard of. Typical you use grievance in election campaigns but move to the center and be more uniting in nature as president. The ol 'that was a nasty fight but now let's heal and come together' that honestly made our way of governing unique.

In the meantime, Bernie rose on the left and his campaign uses the grievance playbook, which is why I think it hurts him in democratic primaries because, that's not the democratic style.

But times are a changing and maybe this grievance attack on MAGA is a step in that direction.

I don't like it, we're not good at it but it might be the most effective method right now (which again is why I think he's signaling out Maga vs All Republicans. At our political core we want to come together and be united, for a better union, etc).

Absolutely, Bernie is aggressive, very aggressive.

I think it's why he struggles to win primaries as his message strikes a lot of chords for dems but his style and tactics (again Bernie bros use the grievance/insulting playbook) comes across as too aggressive/too extreme.

The difference in this example is that the right tries to expand the left extreme to represent the whole party (even though progressives tend to get ~30 of the party votes) while in this case, even though Maga actually makes up the majority of the current republican party...Biden is singling out the extreme.

Like I mentioned before, the dems are not good at grievance politics.

Republicans are winning out because they can gerrymander the seats to the point that a minority of the people can control the majority of the seats. Dems tend to be more congregated into cities, whereas GOP tends to be more spread out. So easy to make sure you carve out dem areas in a way that they can't get a seat in state government.

Not sure how dem would eliminate free market and individual freedoms. Kind of ironic that it is the GOP currently taking away personal freedoms (ie Roe vs Wade) that someone would act like that is a dem thing.

Yup, that's been the core foundation of republican political messaging in my lifetime.

You bring up some good points concerning gerrymandering and individual freedom.

Do have to quibble a bit with your conclusions.

On gerrymandering, at least in Indiana the Pubs did have a majority in the legislature which has been turned in a super majority thanks to gerrymandering. Really hard to gerrymander when in the minority.

As to freedom, the freedom most important to the GOP talking points is the right to own and carry arms. The right of life for the unborn is also high on their list. Another is the right to keep most of their hard earned money by keeping taxes low.

You can gerrymander when in the minority as long you have the seats to do so, which generally means one did a pretty good job gerrymandering before becoming the minority. GOP in Indiana is the majority but they have even more seats than they should by carving up places like Bloomington into multiple districts so they don't get a rep at all.

No one is infringing on their right of life for THEIR unborn. People don't have rights over other people.

No one is infringing on peoples right to own and carry arms. The only thing the left wants is to keep it out of hands of those that shouldn't be bearing arms (criminals, mentally ill) and to an extent how deadly those arms need to be. Having a better system to license and keep track of ownership isn't the same as taking away.

Neither party is lowering taxes on the middle and lower class. The GOP is only wanting to lower taxes on the wealthy. In fact, Scott (GOPer in Florida) has a plan that would RAISE taxes on the poor. They say "lower taxes", they mean "lower taxes for the wealthy".

Grievance politics is the Democratic Party buddy. All Biden does is single out the rich and corporations as if they’re the cause of all the worlds ills. As if they could end the financial hardships were going through if they would just stop being so damn greedy. Your party is essentially “eat the rich” at this point. A party of economic illiterates. You also create racists and homophobes where there are none.

Don’t act as if your political messaging isn't just as inane and duplicitous as Trump’s. Identify the enemy and attack. Even if the enemy doesn’t exist.

Isn't that the original argument, that Dems should take off the gloves, give up on this unity bullshit with people who have absolutely no interest in it and are actively trying to undermine you? So counter attack and play on idiot paranoia....as a distraction?

Where's our blue governor currently outlawing Trumpism?

Jesus H the chair of the republican house of your party put this bile out the other day.....

Again, that's the republican house chair, not some dumb talking head (who's not even doing what you are thinking, he's suggesting that Dem politicians start slinging shit back).

Seems like you are the one with your head up your ass if you truly don't recognize the game.
