The GOP nominee for Governor in Pennsylvania

In the interest of full disclosure, after growing up in the evangelical church, nothing makes me happier to be agnostic than seeing how the church (broadly speaking) has been co-opted by some truly awful people and how the church has been corrupted by politics to the extent that, depending on the candidates, a pastor can stand in the pulpit and go on about how character counts, morality matters, and a leader’s relationship with Jesus is paramount.

And it’s sad/funny that one of the gifts of the spirit is supposed to be discernment and so many people being taken for a ride by evil people without a single Christ-like character trait makes me think they have no more of a relationship with Jesus than they do with a man on the moon.
Those people aren’t Christians, no matter what they say. Jesus radically loved everyone. People unfortunately aren’t perfect like he was, but we have to strive for perfection or we’re not true followers

Dems spent money to help him win the primary.
I think the ethics of that is pretty shitty. But they didn't spend money to boost Mastriano's primary campaign because they like him. The belief was/is that Shapiro can easily kick Mastriano's ass in the general. They had more of a concern about at least one of his primary opponents.

Obviously there's a major backfire risk, but Shapiro is now comfortably ahead in polling.

Better educate yourself. Dangerous ideology that a group of ministers r speaking out against. If u read the attached article u would clearly c that he hates all others that r not his brand of Christian. Jews included and as I pointed out Christ was Jewish.

It may b a small number but these things take on a life of their own on the internet. Look no further than Qanon for the evidence of how that can permeate a society. As I’ve posted before, we have a woman in r neighborhood who believe that children are being held captive under the sidewalks by evil democratic pedophiles. That’s the wackiest but she has other conspiracy theories. I just walk away from her.
There’s haters in all religions. I don’t think it’s any different than it’s ever been.

50 years ago my mom thought she hated Catholics. Dad, Mom and my brother and sister were on the interstate leaving the Reds/Cardinals game in Cincinnati and our car broke down. A Catholic family picked us up on the side of the highway and kept us for a week until their mechanic fixed our car. My mom exchanged Christmas cards and letters with the mother of the family until the mother passed. Mom figured out Catholics were just as good as Mennonites.

Lol. You’re right about haters. It’s just that given the proliferation of hate on the internet gives the haters an audience that was never really available in the past. Things can spread quickly. And let’s face it. This country loves a good conspiracy theory no matter how ridiculous like the Jewish lasers starting California wildfires. Marjorie Taylor Greene repeated it. So now u have people in authority that spread this crap and it just multiplies. Btw good friend of mine is a jerk over. More fun than a Mennonite. Lol. 😂

Are you familiar with “jerked over” term in Amish/Mennonite community?

Jerked over Amish is Amish person that left Amish religion for the sinful Mennonites or English. Jerked over Mennonite is Mennonite that left for bad English Churches. I am a jerked over Mennonite 😂

He’s jerked over Amish. I grew up in the center of Amish country in northern Indiana. His family for many years refused to acknowledge him. He was definitely the sinful deserter. He loved to party hard at the time. But he left that all behind when he met his future wife who also lived to party. Now they live the straight and narrow life.

"My policy is not to conduct interviews with reporters who aren't Christian or with outlets who aren't Christian and Doug has a very similar media strategy where he does not do interviews with these people. He does not talk to these people. He does not give press access to these people," said the Gab founder. "These people are dishonest. They're liars. They're a den of vipers and they want to destroy you. My typical conversation with them when they email me is 'repent and accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior.' I take it as an opportunity to try and convert them."

This dates back to the Primary, but it demonstrates how Mastriano's cultish behavior extends beyond just not granting interviews. He actually attempted to keep his political rallies secret, which is just bizarre...

This discussion provides some major insight into Christian Nationalism...

Partying hard is fine for Amish but when you get married partying is over or you’re shunned by your family and the rest of the community.

Again, because you say it’s growing doesn’t make it true. Show me data. Show me survey results from now and from 30 years ago and see if there are statistically significant differences.

I’m not defending these weirdos, I’m not a religious person. I’m just pointing out that “Christian Nationalist” size and influence is likely being overstated by state media before a midterm election.

Right - which is kind of a problem isn’t it? I was a Christian until I read the Bible. Coincidence?
You read it with the wrong attitude then. Remember that the Bible, though inspired by God, was written by man. These wackos that claim we should be able to own slaves and have harems because “they did it in the Bible” are not considering historical context. If your read the Bible knowing that the entire text points toward the resurrection you won’t be so jaded

When loonies like Marjorie Taylor Green a US Representative starts broadcasting to her followers and constituents that she espouses these beliefs it becomes even more dangerous. I can’t give u stats. But just look over the last 30 years at the growth of the far right fringe groups that promote hate and violence and u can c how this can spread. Domestic terrorism is much more likely than anything from abroad at this time. DOJ has made this very clear.

Well I’m glad you swallow that at all hook, line and sinker. Again, no data. And I’m not going to do a whatabout by pointing out the Summer 2021 riots caused over $1B of damage. Again, all based on bad data and emotions - like you’re kicking here - but I’m not gonna do a whatabout.

Anybody who subscribes to Christian Nationalism is a buffoon. Anybody who overstates their influence is a useful mark.

I’m not going to litigate the Bible with you. I’m pointing out how hilarious it is to be lectured about Christianity by people who haven’t read the foundational text.

No disputing the vileness of 2021 and the damage done. Just pointing out that when elected officials start spouting this crap don’t fool yourself into thinking this won’t spread and do damage to r democracy. That’s exactly what it’s designed to do. And one day u wake up and it’s mainstream. Count me a useful mark and not an ostrich hiding it’s head in the sand.

I’ll give u a good example. Alex Jones. Fringe many years ago now propagator of the Sandy Hook conspiracy and his minions swallow it hook line and sinker. Made $100 million plus in the last five years. We’re those who warned about him useful marks too. I believe he even questioned Parkland and now Uvalde.

And how much is he on the hook for paying out?

Litigate the Bible?? Interesting concept. Just pointing out that not all of us Christians are bad “Bible thumpers”. Adhering to the teachings of Christ makes for a pretty good human being, Christian or not

So, you think that a judgement against Alex Jones from the small number of people who took part in that trial is a more significant indicator of the size of his influence than the amount of money he has taken in over the last five years?

I suppose you could credibly support that argument if it the claim was that he got his money from just a couple of wealthy supporters, but I don't get the sense from anyone that is the way Jones has accumulated his wealth.

How are you squaring this idea?

Are there any black Christian nationalists? Maybe they should merge.
Clearly you didn't watch the CNN video, which is fine. But then you ask a question that was basically answered in the video (starting the 2 min mark) so that seems a pretty useless enterprise?

Basically, what the studies he cites shows that when people of color describe "Christian Nationalism" they identify with an aspirational sense the failure of America to live up to the ideals it espouses. Clearly it wouldn't make any sense for them to adopt the white Christian Nationalist ideal of linking a nostalgic longing for the "good old days" to the time when "people who thought and looked like us" were in control...

People have alluded to Bowers being a regular member of Gab, and his anti Semitic posts attacking the HIAS, were not because the HIAS assisted Jewish immigrants. It was their work to assist Islamic and people of color who were refugees/immigrants that made HIAS an agent of the "great Replacement Theory" and his enemy. Now remember that Mastriano has attacked his "Jewish" opponent (Josh Shapiro) as a "Soros puppet"...

It's not a coincidence that both Robert Bowers and Doug Mastriano felt right at home on Andrew Torba's platform Gab...And Mastriano is not there because he feels it is a "fringe movement"...

When watching this video keep in mind that Torba's statements here occurred AFTER Robert Bowers posted frequently as a GAB member AND killed all those people in Pittsburgh following a specific post on GAB announcing his intentions...

One might think that after an anti-Semite member of your platform committed mass murder you might be at least a little circumspect and tone down the anti-Semitic rhetoric. But that is not what Torba chose to do, and his statement on excluding Jews (even wingnuts like Ben Shapiro) is from June 2022...

Well that’s yet to b determined. He just declared bankruptcy prior to the decision. How convenient. Make over $100 M then say you need protection from creditors. Bullet would do it for me. Nothing crueler than what he did and he inspired his followers to harass the grieving parents. Deserves a special place in hell as far as I’m concerned.

I have no idea what you’re trying to say. Alex Jones has a fringe audience. He’s a nutcase that has preyed on atrocities to bring attention to him. He deserves to be penniless. It doesn’t mean he has anything but a fringe audience.

Let’s whatabout for a minute. How much should BLM, or other organizations that spread false information leading to massive racial discord, violence and damages be on the hook for the $1.5B of damages (which doesn’t include the deaths and civil payouts for those)?

We agree. It’ll be a massive amount. It’ll be more than a year’s revenue of whatever he monetizes right now.
