On the final play call, the pass at the end of the second regulation ... The Cliff's Notes version of what was said when asked about it ... Full story coming with full quotes and more explanation ...
I asked IU coach Kevin Wilson about it, and he said IU considered a lot of options, read, other runs included, but decided Michigan would be playing press coverage and a receiver could win a one-on-one battle.
IU receiver Mitchell Paige said IU had practiced that play as a potential play at the end of a game or in a situation where it is absolutely needed. He said the ball went to him each time.
Nate Sudfeld said basically the same thing, that IU had practiced a number of plays for possibly game-tying or game-winning situations and felt that was a play that would work in that situation.
Jordan Howard said he was fine with the play call because he trusts what the coaches call.
I also asked Howard if he went to the coaches and basically said, "Give me the ball," and he said he didn't.

Here is what Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said about it:
"At the end of the game I saw the quarterback look over the slot, he had the matchup he wanted on Delano Hill. Looked at it, looked back at it and I knew that was where he was going, a very athletic, very quick guy in the slot there. Very maneuverable. But Delano really competed for the ball throughout the catch, contested it the whole way, looked like he was able to slap it away. Really, really happy for Delano Hill and all of us. Got things to do. Tired, a little beat up, but two games to go it’s suck it up time."
