The Doctor is in

Gary Patterson at TCU has had great results with strength and conditioning program. He took some decent talent and made them in to better talent with their s&c. Hard to argue with their success. Hope we see similar results.
Go Hoosiers!

In all honesty, I wish IU had kept this on the down low a bit. You do it, you realize the results, get excited as a staff but keep it in-house and be vague about it to the press. If the results aren’t seen, it could backfire as they have been talking it up. If they keep it subtle and then it blindsides people and produces great results, they can sit back and show a sly smile and simply say “It’s our S&C program, which we have a lot of confidence in.”

It’s risky to give out all of these details if it doesn’t show up:

  • “All three Hoosier scholarship quarterbacks – Peyton Ramsey, Michael Penix Jr. and Reese Taylor – are running over 22 MPH.
  • IU sophomore wideout Whop Philyor and freshman defensive back Jaylin Williams are both running over 23 MPH.
  • On average, Indiana has seen a 2.5-3.0 miles-per-hour increase in top speed across the team. That correlates to a .2-.3 improvement”
They chose to promote it and I can respect that but I would have kept my cards close to the vest on that one. Don’t show your poker face.

I understand your point but I think they see it as a recruiting bullet point.

They feel they're offering something better than the average bears S&C program and are selling it.

True....I just would have unleashed the promo 4-5 games into the season for it if it was obvious the impact.

It's a little bit like how when Marcus Thigpen was returning all those kickoffs for touchdowns then they ran that article in the paper, telling everyone how they were doing it. Well, you know the rest of the story, advantage lost.

Well..., we'll all know by the end of game 4 (M$U) whether it paid major dividends this season.

From what I thought I heard when listening to Ballou's interviews he sounded surprised at the immediate major gains and had expected to see the big results this time next year... If that is the case, the best is yet to come.

Yeah, let's hope they're keeping a few of the details close to the vest...

And if the results show this season, you better believe there will be some headhunters gunning for guys on our staff. It would be a good problem to have since it means all the training paid off.
