We have a collapsing world around us. I feel a tiny bit better knowing he is in the room.

Latest incidents not getting much media attention:
1. Uptick in violence Ukraine.

2. Riots in Israel. (Boy has that backfired on this admin) We also witness the extent of GCC empathy toward Palestinians with their newfound Israeli love-fest. 0.
This situation is a real powder keg.

Really disturbing story. Sidelining the wisdom of Tillerson for the likes of Bannon + Gorka. This new team of Harvey and others mentioned in the article are extreme hawks. Really scary shit. The war drum beats on. I also have no idea why Pompeo continues to provide political/policy opinions. That is absolutely not his job.

I'm stunned that Kushner hasn't achieved peace in the Middle East yet. I guess he's been kind of busy with personal issues lately. Maybe we should appoint someone with a little background and experience?

He will have a lot more free time to work on this problem behind bars.

Come on dude. The Administration and Tillerson aren't responsible for the Middle East being the Middle East.

I'm well aware of that... but they made less than 0 progress on that issue after some rather grandiose promises. In addition, Jerusalem is on the verge of an explosion, with no US presence that I'm aware of. Talk about being behind the 8 ball. We are no longer the world leader diplomatically.

The Israelis haven't been listening to the U.S. for over a decade. They need to say fvck PC and do what needs to be done. Haley has stood up more for Israel than Kerry did over his entire political career.

Made a poor initial decision then humiliated throughout; and now the end is nigh.

Who can blame him.

The second that Iran has a nuclear weapon which can reach Israel, Israel will attack them no matter what anyone else says. It will be their survival.

How often have states attacked a country with nuclear weapons? Of dubious support is the North Vietnam attacking the US in the Gulf of Tonkin (didn't happen but included for completeness). Then we have an Israeli attack on the USS Liberty. Argentina went after the Falklands. Iran hit the USS Stark. After that, I'm drawing a blank, am I missing some? My point would be an Israeli attack before Iran had a bomb might happen. I'm not sure I see it happening after.

Marvin, Iran has threatened Israel to completely destroy them. If they get a nuclear weapon you don't think they will use it?

I am just saying Israel won't attack after Iran has the bomb. There is far too much risk at that point. Before is a different question and one I don't have an answer to.

The man you voted for said we should not only kill terrorists but also their families. You don't think he'll do it?

My God I envy your ability to think so simply.

Iran, and every other Middle Eastern country, has threatened to completely destroy everyone at one time or another. It's what they do. They probably threatened another country before breakfast today. Even if Iran gets a nuclear weapon one day, they won't use it. Why? Because they know, no matter how crazy of a leader they get, they'll get wiped off the map. Iran has an address and we know what it is. They may hate Israel a lot, but they like having power more. They won't risk losing that power. Why do you think all these terrorist leaders send out the pawns to do suicide missions? Because the leaders want to stay in power, plus they know it's idiotic.

Six months in and he needs a sabbatical? I am sure he probably has a problem to get out of bed every day since working there. I bet he gets into the office later and later with each passing day. :(

Its quite sad -- you leave the cushy albeit unimpressive, insipid record as a US senator; or CEO of one of the largest companies in the world to the humiliation of taking orders from an imbecile.

I would be popping, snorting or smoking something by now and who could blame you.

Life's a one-way street and regrets is one of the things you try to avoid and then you make this decision...

A depressing ending to one's long career.

Rex Tillerson’s new goal for the State Department: Drop democracy promotion abroad
http://www.salon.com/2017/08/01/rex...e-department-drop-democracy-promotion-abroad/

Working hard to making America relevant around the world.

This sad.

I am not sure what their final end game is -- but its certainly reducing the standing of America around the world but now seems like its an intentional strategy.

Those who travel internationally for work know how a massive advantage that image is for opening doors and doing business.

Promoting democracy has, by and large, been a colossal failure for us.

Promoting democracy has, by and large, been a colossal failure for us.

Tough to say -- it was what made America special in its position of the world's super power. You just never heard that under the British colonial rule.
Secondly, if it had not attempted to promote democracy, what would this world be otherwise?

I do agree that the execution, the jingoistic approach and American excuse for political domestic influence have had some colossal failure. But keeping the goals and ideals of democracy keeps hopes alive in many of those repressed nations -- maybe not for America but for their goal of keeping the various governments true.

Tillerson spurns $80 million to counter ISIS, Russian propaganda
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/08/02/tillerson-isis-russia-propaganda-241218

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is resisting the pleas of State Department officials to spend nearly $80 million allocated by Congress for fighting terrorist propaganda and Russian disinformation.

One Tillerson aide, R.C. Hammond, suggested the money is unwelcome because any extra funding for programs to counter Russian media influence would anger Moscow, according to a former senior State Department official.

Very out of the box approach...
