..... sure doesn't look like an invalid right now, running and yelling up and down the sideline in the Wisconsin/Butler game.

I guess his health must be pretty good for a 57-year-old guy (apparently the winningest coach in OSU history).

Edit to add: Butler has had the most amazing luck (oops, I mean success) in hiring its basketball coaches. Not us.

Yep, "failed physical" my ass. Matta was the only silver lining associated with the Bigfoot hire.

You would take what happened at IU from roughly 2004 to 2017 over what Thad did at OSU? IU gets Oden and Conley if Matta is at IU. No offense to RMK, but he missed on that one.
IU could have and would have had Matta had they cut Davis loose after the 04-05 season. 2005-2006 season on, should have been Thad's Indiana Hoosiers. But .. But Marco Killingsworth was the savior to the dumbasses who were makin the decisions..

I've never seen that comment reported anywhere and this is the first time I've heard of it. Got a link or even some general context on when it was said and to whom?
Me neither, but it's not relevant regardless. I don't know if Matta's a "great coach" but he's obviously a very, very good coach. Just because RMK said it, doesn't mean it's gospel. He was wrong about Archie, heck he even has admitted he was wrong about some of the ways he coached (using more zone on out of bounds). Matta has been a very successful college coach, something CMW has never been. Might put that on our hiring checklist for next time.

Jmo..
I'm a little younger than Woodson.
I personally don't want see a hire that's 50 unless he's a unbelievable proven winner..And yes I get CCC in his 60's
Younger the better...

And Matta is not one of them. RMK was never impressed with his coaching
Knight was fired in 2000 and didn't have anything to do with IU since then.

Matta has remained a head coach since Knight's firing, except for a five year stretch.

Matta's coaching record is 478–191 (.714). He is the winningest coach in OSU's history. Matta has proven to be a good coach.

Woodson didnt want him. Insecure. And they gave in to him. And Thad was probably thinkin he didnt want any part of this program. Just my opinion.
i mean before they hired woody. if i remember correctly, he was a leading candidate for the job and was asked to take a physical which he supposedly failed.

Woodson had to choose between Matta and his own ego. That was an easy decision for CMW. Of course....he made the wrong choice; but then again....so did IU when it hired him.

No disrespect to the late Robert Montgomery Knight, but I'm pretty impressed with his .714 winning percentage, 24-13 NCAA Tournament record, 2 FFs, 4 EEs, 6SSs, 5 B1G regular season Championships and 4 Tourney Championships

Whatever the reason, he was on Woody's staff his first year, and the very next year he was coaching Butler. Couldn't have been too serious.
He looked on deaths door when he was in the Bahamas woodys first year.

Must have made a miraculous recovery. Whatever it was, good for him. And another missed opportunity for us. Outstanding coach.
Oh I agree, but he was in no condition to take over back then. For sure miraculous recovery.
