Tamar Bates

should start in place of Parker Stewart. The kid stepped up today. Nothing from Stewart or Kopp again. Sound familiar? 6 tough games left, could we possibly finish the season on a 9 game losing streak?
Just my thoughts!
Yep, there's not much to win from losing, and we don't have anything to win. This should have been done months ago and maybe we might have

I feel partly responsible b/c 3 weeks ago I I said it "felt good" to "not have to worry about a Jan/Feb collapse"....

Can it be true that we haven't played in the NCAA tourney since 2016?

I'd love to see the list of schools that can boast that.

In the BIG I think it’s only PSU and NEB. Let that sink in.

This will likely be 6 years straight. I am old enough to remember when we made it like 20 years in a row.

I'm old enough to remember beating Wisky for two straight decades...now it's been two decades since we've won in Madison.

If we can stay at .500 in the B1G, finish with 20 wins and get at least 2 more Q1 wins, we'll get in. Beating Wisky is a great start. It will not be easy to beat them, at Minny, and then Rutgers.

This team cannot score enough to beat a good opponent.

Like u said before finish 4-2. I am never confident of winning even one game in the btt.

They need to start them both now, there's no reason not to
Let's see Kristian Lander per 40 minutes.... 6.6 fouls, 6.6 turnovers....not to mention giving up baskets on a lot of possessions where he doesn't foul.

I will start by saying I am still holding out hope that Lander develops. Having said that I have always been curious to see how many points per 40 Lander gave up to whoever he guards. It has to be over 40 points per 40 minutes right?

not this year. Rutgers just did something we haven't done in 2 decades. Win in Madison. And they've bitch slapped us around the past few yrs. That will be a very tough home win for us. But I think it's safe to say, we have to win out at home. Otherwise, we'll need to pull of the upset at OSU and Purdue and I don't like those odds based on our recently play. We just cannot score. We aren't even getting close to 70 pts recently.

Lander ??
Mind blown that anyone thinks Lander is a Big Ten talent..
I'd say he's the most over hyped player in the history of Indiana basketball..
Hmmmm. John Flowers, Delray Brooks, Jeff Oliphant, Malcolm Simms, Lou Moore, Monte Marcaccini, Rob Foster, Cem Dinc, Todd Lindeman, Charlie Miller, Rob Hodgson, Jessan Gray-Ashley, Hanner Perea, Marshall Strickland, Lyndon Jones, Jason Collier, Jeremiah Rivers, Romeo Langford??

> Lander. The difference between all those players and Lander is, they at least looked like they belonged on the court.

I don't know if he will be back next year but he still has 3 more years and his quickness and ball handling should help him be pretty good eventually.

If his role doesn’t build on today and grow the rest of this season…I’d like to be a fly on the wall for the meeting between Bates family and Woody at the end of the season.

From the sounds of it they’re great people. It’s refreshing they’re not pissing and moaning all over social media about their sons role and PT. But once the seasons over, I can’t imagine that commitment stays very strong.

I’ll actually be surprised if Bates is at Indiana next year. Which sucks if I’m right, because I think it could be fun watching he and JHS play together.

yes, and you weren’t alone. A month ago there were quite a few talking about how nice it will be to (finally) be playing our best basketball of the year down the stretch. I would say people here seemed locked into the idea that their team would just keep playing better and better.

maybe we will right the ship. But right now it’s taking in water and it sure feels like we are on the verge of another late season melt down losing streak. There is an iceberg in the waters ahead painted in red and white with a giant red W (for Wisconsin) on it. Everyone sees it. How will we respond?

I agree. Our offense really has looked stagnant the last 5 or 6 games. We have to find a way to start scoring again. Defense is still holding up ok but just aren’t going to beat many people scoring in the 50s.

He's played more minutes than Kopp the last 2 games (not counting Northwestern), and played more than Stewart in the Maryland game. I'd say playing more than the starters has him on a good trajectory.

I posted on here when Lander reclassified that it was going to be difficult for him because of his size and age , and people shouldn’t be saying he was a bust . Unfortunately I was right for once . I hope he stays as he is still young , and developing. In what little he has played , I’ve seen improvement , although it was a small sample size . Who ever convinced him to reclassify was clueless. Also why do some people think Bates won’t be back . Is that speculation, or just someone’s opinion.

if they were referring to me saying he COULD be a one and done, well yes I was wrong. I also said he was closer to a one and done than three year player, also obviously wrong. He will be here for 2 or most likely 3 years. I don’t see transferring as an option unless the next few weeks go very poorly.

Agree. I think likely a 3 year guy. Unless there is a huge jump next tear which is a possibility.

Maybe it’s just coincidence but ever since TJD fell hard his offense has slipped and so has the team. But I also think the level of competition has a lot to do with it. Aside from Nebraska there are no East Cupcake States in the B1G.

Agreed....build for the future. Bates and Lander should have had more minutes early on prior to the B1G season...
Then we would have to hear about how bad of a decision that was. For gods sake people were ranting about Trey starting and that did nothing for us yesterday. He missed 9 shots with 3 assists and no rebounds. Bates played pretty well but still didn’t change the outcome. They are getting the shots and open looks. They just can’t hit anything near the basket or further out. We have to hit shots regardless of who’s playing m. Switching zero for zero does nothing. Doesn’t even help the guys develop.

Love Trey’s effort but our overall lack of perimeter athleticism has been on full display lately. On both ends of the court.

OK when our conference record falls to 7-13 we can start Bates and Lander in an early exit strategy for the Big 10 tournament to conserve team strength for the NIT … this is premature capitulation at this point. The season did Not really end yesterday.

Agreed. Woody needs to start who he thinks is best right now. I am not convinced Bates doesn’t figure into that though. Yesterday he was our beat guard. Not saying much I know but still. Lander will probably be back to spelling Johnson until Rob returns but that is still only 2-4 minutes per half imo. Less if he turns the ball over or gives up easy buckets right away.

I just don’t think Kopp and Stewart can get it done offensively unless TJD gets back to being a 20/10 guy. Nobody is going to give them shots to double him so long as he is shooting 30% in the paint.

Correct. Woody hasn’t lost more than 2 in a row until we lost to northwestern. We would’ve won that game with everyone available. That game was an aberration.

If we lose to wisconsin I would say we are done ncaa wise. We would have to finish 4-1 at that point and that's not happening. So throw lander in at that point
