Passing Defense Numbers:

In all games, we gave up 314 passing yards per game. (Worst in league. 7 teams gave up less than 200.)
In Big 10 games, we gave up 309 passing yards per game (Worst in league. 6 teams gave up less than 200.)

In all games, we gave up 7.4 yards per pass. (Tied PU. MD, RU and Nebraska were worse. 5.4 led the league.)
In Big 10 games, we gave up 7.3 yards per pass. (PU, MD and Rutgers were worse. 5.2 led the league.)

In all games, we got 12 picks. (Iowa had 18, MSU had 15, ILL had 13, and NW/IU/PU had 12.)
In Big 10 games, we got 5 picks, tied for least with Nebraska, OSU, Mich and MD.

In all games, we gave up 32 passing TD's - most in the league. (8 teams had less than 10.)
In Big 10 games, we gave up 20 passing TD's - most in the league. (7 teams gave up less than 10).

In all games, we had 30 sacks. (PSU had 44, MD and MSU had 35, OSU 34, Mich and IU 30.)
In Big 10 games we got 20 sacks. (PSU had 28, Mich and NW had 22, we tied OSU with 20.)

We got a decent amount of sacks in league play, fewer picks in league play, and gave up big yardage and scoring. Tells me we didn't sustain coverage. Doesn't tell why. Mix up on coverage? Out run on go routes? LB's not covering well? Need tape to know, and Big 10 stats don't show numbers of "big yard plays," but I'd bet a LOT of those TD throw were to late underneath guys who got TONS of yards-after-catch. Some wide open missed coverages, but not THAT many.

Rushing Defense Numbers:

In all games, we gave up 195.7 rushing yards per game. (Only Purdue was worse.)
In Big 10 games, we gave up 202.1 yards per game. (Only Rutgers and Purdue were worse.)

In all games, we gave up 5.2 yards per rush - worst in the league.
In Big 10 games, we gave up 5.3 yards per rush. (Only Rutgers and Purdue were worse.)

In all games we gave up 30 rushing TD's. (Only Rutgers was worse. 8 teams gave up less than 20. OSU led with 8.)
In Big 10 games, we gave up 22 rushing TD's. (Only Rutgers was worse. 5 teams gave up 10 or less. 7 was the best.)

Worse than I would have expected, but again, I bet the numbers are badly skewed by the (comparatively) few long runs - my recall was pretty good run defense

In all games, we gave up 326 first downs - worst in the league. 113 by rush. 187 by pass. (Some extras by penalty.)
In league games, we gave up 200 (69 by rush, 120 by pass.)

I guess what I'm saying is, the passing defense was not that much worse than our rush defense, which is surprising.
