You may have seen Rich Strike win the 148th Kentucky Derby on the national broadcast, but this overhead view shows just how impressive the victory was.
Maybe the best drive of any Derby jockey ever. Two huge moves and then shooting up the rail - all in the stretch. Plus, smart enough to not try and keep up with a super-fast pace.

Yes, I was wondering if that super fast start is what gave him the chance to win in the end. I don’t know the first thing about being a jockey but evidently Leon knows that horse really well. Surely that was a factor also. Also a bit of luck I think because it was really congested back there and then somehow a couple gaps opened up for him. Kudos to him for seizing those opportunities ofc.
It seems like the commentator didn’t even realize what was happening to the very last second.

Love how the announcer didn't even notice him until the very end. Hats off to the jockey. He rode a race for the ages.

I’m a compete layman but that horse was acting quite squirrelly afterwards. I wouldn’t be surprised if it fails a dope test.This is great. 80-1 odds and wasn’t even in the field until the last moment.
Could’ve claimed that horse for 30k. He was 10th at Ellis park last august. Crazy.
It was good to see the Derby with full stands this year.
Favorites clearly ran too hard in the first 1/2 mile to hold on down the stretch.

I hope not because that would be two years in a row. I don’t want to see the horse breeding and racing industry turn into the Russian Federation.
He was acting like a jacked up stallion horse, which he was. I’ve seen it after several races at Churchill Downs.
Even if he does, it was a helluva ride. Like a drunk winning the 500?
