Student Chant

Could anyone hear the chant directed at Ace Baldwin last night? If it was what I thought I heard, it is another example of our students showing no class.
He told them to stfu after he hit a three. So I imagine they returned the favor. But I couldn’t tell

Not sure how it started but it was embarrassing watching it on tv. Kids were wondering what they were saying.
Well, if kids were wondering what they were saying and adults didn’t tell them, it wasn’t a problem. They’ve all seen and heard worse on the Internet anyway, I’m sure.

I watched it on TV, too, and couldn’t figure it out, but I didn’t need to spend much time wondering. I suspect all college gyms have raunchy chants for the targeted opposition. It comes with the territory in defense of home turf. Gone are the days when Coach Knight would grab the microphone mid-game to chastise our classless crowd. No coach today has the balls to do it. I miss Bob Knight. He was one of a kind.

that's our society today. And I bet most of them were doing it while streaming live on their iphones to their instaSnapTwit accounts.
I agree. They are so used to making comments or communicating on electronic devices many times under fictional screen names, that They feel invincible and can do this stuff under any circumstance. A few of Them need a hard lesson from the old days when You had to make yourself known and get within speaking distance of Your Target and risk getting Your ass kicked for running Your mouth.

I found it amusing that a referee ejected someone in the front row at about the same time students were chanting. I agree that you hear this in many arenas; not sure how you would enforce anything.

I'm a bit old school and loved it when RMK would keep our fans in check. However, times have definitely changed and if a player wants to celebrate a made basket by looking at the opposing fans and tell them to "Shut the F up"....well, shit's going to get real and honestly I have no problem with it. Now, if they ever do the "over rated" chant, I have a problem with that. Dumbest chant ever invented.

Agree. Objectively there is little special abut this program anymore. Definitely not W&Ls. Not really culture either

Maybe a coach could threaten to pull his team off the court. Has that ever happened?

Who here is old enough to witness Knight taking the PA mic and telling the crowd something like, “we don’t do that at IU?”
He was eventually banned from taking the mic and Chuck Crabb handled it. I remember witnessing a couple times Knight angrily chastised the crowd. And I heard a story that at least one time Knight’s first wife, Nancy, picked up the PA mic and told the crowd that they weren’t cheering loud enough for the team.

Oh ya clear as day F ace Baldwin. I mean. If I’m a student I’m joining in for sure. This is pro sports, leave the kids at home.
Agree. Baldwin was the instigator. And F that guy if I'm a student at a 8:30 game on a Wednesday night, leave them alone.

I was one of the parents that had to explain to a kid what was going on. No big deal, a teaching moment.

It was an odd dynamic as the game went on. The F Ace Baldwin stuff sort of died off. He missed a couple big ones in crunch time. He took a contested 3 when they were up 5 that didn't go down. The game shifted after that.

Give TG credit last night. He hit more big shots than Baldwin.

I believe the line was, "this is Indiana University and we don't do that". It was in reference to the good old "Bullsh!t" chant.

I remember Nancy grabbing the mic as well. I don't remember what she said.

I think Knight's was preceded by something link I do not care how bad the officials are, this is Indiana and we do not do that here

The we’re two instances

The second one was “Bullshit Baldwin”. For sure. The first one I couldn’t tell.

The banter between them was hilarious and one of the reasons I really like Baldwin.

BK ripped the fans at halftime for not cheering when we were up over northwestern bigly. The fans booed back and Nancy walked Down in her disco boots and said something like “you don’t know what it’s like to sit here game after game with no cheering”

She got booed louder

It was, "F Ace Baldwin". Clear as day. He hit a 3 late in the clock during the 1st half. He turned directly to the student section and said STFU. It was on after that.

I believe that for sure. You could read his lips more than once.

Wish we had him in our roster

Another time, RMK told to PA guy to tell those m'fers to stop that f'ing shit.

I've got news for you...long before cell phones and 'burners', IU students chanted F U Darby to Brent Darby from Ohio State. That was around 200-2002. And I'm sure it happened before that.

Knight once pulled his team off the court for bad officiating. It was an exhibition game against Russia. I was with a bunch of my uncles and cousins who had driven down from Ft Wayne. They were pissed to witness a shortened game after a 3+ hour drive to Bloomington.
