but these double-digit losses are something I was so accustomed to with Crean-led teams and it frustrated the hell out of me. I always complained that Crean could win at Assembly Hall, but would go on the road to good opponents and not even compete. We'd go to Duke and Louisville and get absolutely blown out.
I realize this roster was widely constructed by the previous staff and you see the gaping flaws in it. Shallow/weak at guard (especially when you consider 2 of the guards actually producing are Archie's freshman. Al has been a surprise. but Crean had no guard depth). No real front court depth. Juwan and De'Ron are Crean guys and I get it's harder to slot in front court players who can contribute right away. But definite lack of front court players. Lack of shooting. We all said Crean just loved to get 6'7 guys and just roll the ball out there, guards and front court players apparently would be like over-signing on scholarships and "just figure itself out".
Again, not putting this all on Crean either though. I just thought the days of IU not even competing and getting blown out were well behind us. Now its even happening with inferior competition, which totally baffles me. If we're losing by 4,5, even 6 points in a very tough B1G conference, then yea, I'm frustrated, but at least we can play with teams.
5 game losing streak consisting of:
11 pt L (Mich)
3 pt L (Maryland)
15 pt L (Neb)
15 pt L (pu)
7 pt L (NW)
Not saying anything new, just needed to vent a bit. I hated that Crean's teams turned the ball over and didn't play defense... but now Archie's teams still turn the ball over and they can't play on offense, and the defense hasn't been exactly great either. Just cannot understand how much worse we've gotten in Archie's 2 years... I'm not saying fire the guy. I still have a lot of faith. But even I, with my VERY realistic expectations, am stumped.
