Steve Risley interview

Lot of stuff was covered, couple of main points were:
1) they expect to have 3 or more kids sign this week
2) Risley was part of a conference call with former players , there were 2, and the one he was on he estimated about 25 guys and most were older than him(he was a sub on the 81 team, scored 5 pts)
3) talked about what kind of player coach wants, intensity, effort…we will go after every rebound will not wait for it to come to us
4) estimates that our starting 5 will cost about $10 million due to revenue sharing

Lots of info, awful delivery. So many people talk about IU bball. This guy has like 70k+ subscribers on YouTube. How that’s possible is beyond me.

Old Timers will like this one, I think. No idea who he is :).

Looks like 4-5 new guys over the next few days. 1.5-3 mil a pop. Damn my $500 a player has came a long way.

Have you heard of Isaiah Thomas or Randy Wittman? Risley was part of 81 national champions. When PU fans talk about Braden Smith. Your response should be have you heard of Isaiah Thomas ?

Heard of wittman couldn’t pick him out of a lineup.

Braden should never be compared to Zeke. Saw him play for the pistons. Pretty good.

Hopefully we find 4-5 in the auction that are a good fit to our needs, budget, and the market.
Should be able to put together a team of his choosing. Resources aren’t a problem. Just pick the guys you like. We are spending 1.5-3 mil per starter. Insane.

I seriously doubt IU lands 3 or more players by the end of this week, or next week. I'd definately like to see it though!

I think their podcast is called The Grueling Truth. I can't comment on the Truth part, but listening to it is grueling! I can listen to about any IU discussion, and have listened to this one, but it isn't easy!

6’8 is a big boy for qb
George McGinnis, also 6'8", played football too. Man I wish I could have been his qb. He played tight end & you could throw him a quick look-in pass or flare and he would drag half the defense down the field with him. Rack up those easy passing yards!
Besides playing for an undefeated state championship basketball team, his football team also won state and he was a three-time Parade all-american in football!

Number 1 recruit in football and basketball.

Risley was steady like a workhouse. Nothing flashy, but didn’t back down, always stood his ground. He was an Indiana kid out of Lawrence Central HS in Indy. What’s not to like about 6’8” and 215 lbs in candy stripes?

Poor kid had the worst case of chest and back acne I ever saw.

To be fair, they noted that the average starter in the portal has so far has cost 1.5 to 3 million, so IU’s starting 5 could cost $10M.

Which is all part of the process of evaluating fit, budget and the market. One player might be a perfect fit at 2 million, but if his auction price is 3 million, he is not a fit. How the whole budget pie gets divided up has to be considered.

Need a smart person in charge. Hopefully DD is that.

Better get on the hump if we're getting those 3-4 additional guys this week! Guessing Wilkerson was included there and things may have gotten murkier. Sounds like they did with our coaching staff too.

Is that the number of visits for the weekend? And, if so, are we assuming we hit on all?

I don't want to put words in Risley's mouth, but what I heard him saying CDD said was that we'd probably have 4-5 new guys this week. I took that to mean players, maybe he meant both players and coaches, I don't know. No, I thought he meant commitments, not visits.

My dad always said that McGinnis was the best football player that the state has ever produced.

Bigger than life character. My former step father said he heard Big George used to bet restaurant owners that he could eat 1 of every entree on their menu in 1 sitting, but if he did, he got it for free. Seems like there was a similar story floating around about Charles Barkley eating a couple large pizzas or something.

It's also been said that he shot fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightening from his arce.

I think I wasn’t clear. I was wondering if we had that many visits lined up this weekend and our staff thinks we will get them all to ink over the weekend.
