A couple years ago I made that recommendation on this board. IMO nobody would deserve it more.

Depends on your criteria.....Pihos was the better player. Probably the most accomplished single player ever at IU.
That's certainly a reasonable position, but George Taliaferro was not far behind if that is the case and was certainly the more socially significant player (no fault of Pete Pihos.)
How about a statue of Bo McMillan, John Pont, Bill Mallory and Terry Hoeppner in a semi-circle, looking like they are talking football?
I certainly wouldn't have a problem with GT or whomever they choose, but they were before my time so personally I hope its Mallory.
I'm not sure I like the idea of a statue. I'd actually prefer they move Hep's Rock there.
Not a bad idea, at all. But first, I'd talk to the players about how they feel about touching Hep's Rock as they take the field. If they say it helps motivate them, I'd leave it right where it is. Otherwise, it's not a bad idea.
You seriously don’t think George Taliaferro deserves a statue? That guy is a hall of famer and is one of the most influential football players in the history of the game. We should be thrilled to have him permanently outside our stadium.
Besides, if AH can have 5 statues, MS can have one.
I'm not a fan of statues in general. Of anybody. If you're going to have one on the SEZ plaza, then sure, George would be a good choice. But I personally think that would diminish George's impact. George was/is much much more than an Indiana University football player. If you could figure out a way to do it, I'd have a statue of him on Indiana Avenue walking in the front door of the Gables.
Memorial Stadium commemorates......... what exactly? Perhaps the theme will be veterans. My support for George Taliaferro is motivated by his life story as much as his gridiron accomplishments. And the fact that he is still alive and kicking.
