In a very likely overlooked stat this past week, Eric Gordon moved passed former Hoosier Jon McGlocklin into 7th place all-time points scored in the NBA among all former IU players, with just under 9200 points. Of course Eric did it in a lot fewer games due to his continued record setting for 3 point shooting.

Jon McGlocklin was on Coach McCracken's final good team in Bloomington starring in 1965 along two heralded future hall of farmers, the VanArsdale twins. He scored over 17ppg that season and later started at guard for the Milwaukee Bucks along side of another homegrown hero, Oscar Robertson, as well as big Lew Alcinder. He went on to win a championship for the Bucks and got his jersey retired for his contributions.

Gordon has been playing very well for the Houston Rockets and continues to come off the bench to torch the nets from long range night after night.

As a final note, McGlocklin, in 3 seasons at IU , scored nearly the same as Juwan Morgan, although in fewer games. And he helped that 64-65 team go 19-5, to send McCracken out on a good season.

The 64-65 team scored 100 points or more seven times. They also scored 90-99 points another six times, one of which was in an epic overtime game at home to Michigan. It was truly the era of the "Hurryin' Hoosiers."

And, with no shot clock, no three-point line and no double bonus foul shots.

Would be curious if 100-point games happen more or less often than in 64-65.

In Rayl's senior season, when the Vans were sophomores, Rayl averaged slightly over 25 ppg while shooting just a bit over 40%. He took an inordinate number of deep shots, which would have been 3-point attempts in today's game. He well could have averaged 30 and a few more games would have thus likely hit triple digits.

I'd say that defensive play is much better today and that it is certainly much better taught and coached.

Knight was "chided" - there's that word again - during his first season about the concentration on defense and his "apparent" disregard for offense. Knight changed IU and changed the conference. I believe it was Bootsie White who dribbled towards IU's bench in that first year in Assembly Hall, when the fans were urging the team to hurry up and shoot more, and said (paraphrasing): "Don't worry, Coach, I can't hear them."
