Some of you must have read this :)

I had to laugh when I saw the title.
Its true ! Even the Marriage part. Since I got old and grumpy the wife doesn't even speak to me any more. I'm MUCH happier !!

My doctor told me this week her goal was to get me to 80. That pissed me off.
It is true that, after 80, doctors pretty much just forget about you. They don't bother to test you with a colonoscopy after age 75 because they figure it will take more than 10 years for colon cancer to kill you - you'll likely die of something else.

I go to the doctor very seldom because, for the most part, they can only diagnose what I can diagnose myself. If I complain about something the answer is normally "Well, you are getting older." I'd like to punch one in the nose and when they complain about it hurting tell them that they are getting older. 🤣

My little 30 year old PA (cute little thing), always give me the same lecture about eating the right things, exercising, getting enough sleep, blah blah blah.

Then, like you say, they read through the lab results, which I actually see before I go to the doctor - I know exactly what they're going to say and do.

It's just a big dance to get their meager Medicare payment. And, if there's the slightest thing wrong, off to a specialist you go.

That's the business model with IU Health. The primaries are the feeders for the high dollar tests and diagnostic procedures and specialists.

This week my 12 year old looking doctor went over all my stuff and said it all looked good. Then she asked me if there were any cancer screenings I thought might be appropriate. I asked her what the hell else was there? I'd had a lung scan, was dealing with my prostate (I have prostate cancer but it's essentially benign -- Google "Gleason score 6"), and had just had a colonoscopy. She shrugged and said okay, then listened to my heart and lungs and gave me a cursory exam on my head and ears... I was just waiting for her to get all concerned about a dark spot on my head and claiming I needed to see a dermatologist, but she just said to wear a hat as much as I could.

Labs drawn once a year.

See a dermatologist once a year (maternal grandfather died of melanoma, and I received a bachelors in blondes while working in the melon fields)

I will get a colonoscopy this year, in all likelihood, as I will turn 50.
It will be done by my PCP.

No corporate medicine for me

Yeah, she probably looked at thing and thought to herself: "That thing won't kill him until 10 to 12 years. It won't get him before he's 80. Screw it, let someone else deal with it".

You do have a body scan every year by a dermatologist, don't you? If not, you should. They found a melanoma spot on my arm that I thought was just a skin discoloration. But I've also had other skin cancer things removed. But you don't want to screw around with melanoma.

Body scan is a must. Mine weren't melanoma but they did dig them both out.

I've had so many thing cut out of me, I just expect them to find something every time I go - and they always find something.

Could be. That would be the same approach they took with the prostate cancer. I wonder if you can get Vegas odds on cause of death?

One of my faults is trying to get along with everyone.

Grumpy people sense this and successfully are able to manipulate me. Then when I attempt to prevent this, I feel guilty.

Being grumpy has its advantages :).

I dumped IU Health after 37 years with the same PCP practice.
Boutique medicine is the way to roll..
