So we just gonna sit and play dumb with the Braun BS?

I am very happy how she handled. My son had to deal with the BS when going from his class at Luddy, then to Franklin Hall. I pay good money to have my kid 1) feel safe, and 2) walk where he needs to walk to get to class.

Looks like Hickory is back on, being allowed to muddle every response grouping with his addled maniacal laughter emoj... If it's there and it doesn't belong you can be certain it's that commie moron (now Hurrying").

It's far more liberal from an administrative standpoint point.
I have 2 children there now. Both are transferring... can't stand the liberal BS , the anti-Semitic protests etc. and we're Catholic
The classrooms. Not hard to audit one ... went to one my daughters Sociology classes. Prof went on a DEI rant for 30 minutes. I finally had to tap out ... so did half the class. Many more where that came from ..

What constitutes a "DEI rant" that you observed and what prompted you to attend?

Ask this, because this whole DEI controversy strikes me as part of the culture war. A war which from my point of view is more about politics than an effort to rationally discuss our past history.

Having said that, shouldn't a student hear and learn about all the various versions of our racial history? A war, including the culture war, has more than one side. Teach all the viewpoints.

So changing the rule and then arresting based on it is legit?

Just because you liked the result doesn't make it any better

She is a disgrace and now she protected her job by giving governor control of the BOT

Whatever it takes to protect MY (or my son's) right to attend classes, a PAID one at that. That right to freedom and safety overrides someone else's right to protest, IMHO. Protest all day long peacefully and without screwing around with others. Go protest in the stadium parking lot.

If that's the route he chose, then he chose to be inconvenienced.

No. He went the route my money paid for. IU is a learning institution where people who paid to use the property and facilities should get to use them without inconvenience. Like I said, protest at the stadium without disrupting everyone else's life.

Just because you didn't like the result doesn't disgrace the administration. In fact. your ilk being all butthurt demonstrates the legitimacy of her decision.

Go Pam!

Whatever. I want GTFO of my way zones so I can do what I paid $12,000 a year to do: go to class and learn.
They can go to class. For years Reverend Max stood on campus and would call people names. I was there one Day when he pointed at a girl not dressed as he thought appropriate and told the crowd that she was going to hell, should he have been kicked off campus?

I get approached by Mormons inviting me to go to their temple, or to read the Book of Mormon, should they be kicked off campus?

Did they build a shithole village and block your path to class?

Which administration wanted to paint over the murals in the large lecture hall because of the content making certain 'groups' uncomfortable?

Mass, could you enlighten me on this one. Would love to see a picture of the mural.

Take it, the paint over never happened, or did it?

I'm way up here in upper Michigan, so not in this fight, other then it's my home state and I went there. And I have pride in my home state's flagship u.

Seeing how she handled protests, other efforts she's on, has me thinking Pam Whitten may go down as the best president this university has had in a long, long time.

Faculty claims to want free exchange of ideas. But they see a few new ideas, budget adjustments, actual freedom to NOT have one view's protests shutdown other students points of view, and they go apeshit.

Whitten rocks. Make the University a place where the kids are there to learn, and the state can be proud of the quality that results.

Don't see why they felt the need to mess with board elections, but it's not all that big of a deal... Elect the governor you want, all good. Hopefully will be from a variety of backgrounds, but representing what the people of Indiana need and want.

The mural was done by Thomas Hart Benton 1n 1933. One panel depicted KKK.
Search The Indiana Murals IU Woodburn Hall 100.

This is part of history, regardless of who does or doesn't feel warm and fuzzy about that.

It's cancel culture. Nothing less.

Did Max or the Mormans camp out? Did they prevent students from using areas of campus? If so, then yes, do your thing at the stadium.

So your child's education was directly impacted because they could not thor ball in Dunn Meadow? The sidewalks through Dunn were open, I walk that every day. I pretty much walked through every day of the encampment. They weren't obstructing the sidewalks.

Or more likely it's pure bullshit. The only reason I say that is because my children read his post and that's what they said .. and like Stoll I had a friend, and a complete random Canadian stranger come by that read his post and verified that it's bullshit ..

First, if you bothered to read any of my responses (you didn't), I directly said he went from Luddy to Franklin for a class. So, don't be a dickhead and flippantly go to throwing a ball. I thought you were better than that.

Second, I relayed a story from my son. I don't know if he walked the grass or sidewalks. I don't know if it was sunny or raining. I don't know if his education was impacted or not. I do believe him when he said he couldn't get through and people yelled shit at him.

I don't care if you believe him or not. But I do, so you can whatever you want but I know my son is not a liar. If you think he is, then GFY a lot!

It is. Back in 91 when the gulf war broke out they tried to do that , we stormed Dunn meadow. Riot police came and they cleaned that shit up in a day.
We stormed Dunn Meadow…lol. Do you play with toy soldiers in your mom’s basement?

Funny. Rapier whit .. you should go solo with that ... not
. But it was a cold night , we had just beaten Purdue at west Lafayette. It was a crowd that gathered at foster/mcnutt we went to teter/wright and gathered more, went through the fountain , proceeded to Dunn meadow. We were met by riot police. They forced us back , I'll bet 500 or so , and then they arrested and drug out the protesters some left under their own accord. Others were arrested and removed.

Mass, appreciate your response.

Did do some research per your suggestion.

Found out the mural in my high school'study hall by Grant Wood was part of an art movement which the controversial IU mural painter Thomas Hart Benton was a member.

Unlike what happened at IU the mural in my high school was proudly displayed and heralded by my hometown as Grant Wood just as Thomas Hart Benton were renoun artists of their era.

Bottom line for me, all the culture war and cancel culture political talking points are needlessly dividing us while important problems such as balancing federal budgets get lost in all the unproductive chatter.

Would bet the mural at IU just like the mural in my high school went without controversy having been seen by thousands of students over decades until the culture war and cancel culture entered our politics.

The Woodburn 100 mural was controversial in 1973 when I sat in the room my freshman year. The prof made note of it the first day of class.

Curious as to what the prof said.

If the prof called attention to the KK members in the background without telling students about the Benton regionalism movement which focused on the workers in the foreground, the prof missed an opportunity to fully explain what Benton and the mural were all about.

Owe the above remarks to Massuta who encouraged me to do some research.

Having said that, the KK history in Indiana is part of our history. History which isn't easy to shrug off. Often wonder if my paternal grandfather was a KK member as were many Hoosiers with similar backgrounds.

It was a history class. Prof said basically what you said above, that the KKK was a part of Indiana history, which was what the mural was depicting. The KKK imagery itself is a very small portion of the mural. You have to look closely to even see it.

Welp you obviously aren’t in touch with many people at IU. She is very disliked on campus. The people I know who are there are mostly conservative, one extremely conservative and they can’t stand her. Among other things, they think she was unqualified to begin with. And yes, I know, it’s hard to believe I know anyone at IU, more of my imaginary friends. Greek Life person and a VP who just retired last year….both conservative.

F*ck you!!! It's not bullshit. My kid is autistic and in case you didn't know, autistic people are straightforward and lie less than the general population. And so, he didn't make up some story about his day. He told me exactly what happened. And he takes the path through DM because it is the most efficient. Autistic people are kind of that way, so he goes that way because it is fast and he avoids the crowds at the busy time of the day.

Do I need to post his diagnosis? How about the number of his speech therapist from First Steps? I bet @zeke4ahs knows Mary Beth Price as zeke knows everybody.

How about his University school transcripts where he attended for peer learning?

Or maybe you just think I am making it all up? Because that's what I do all the time here. And today, I thought, gee, let's make up a story today.

You are so pathetic. You are the guy who has to build himself up by putting others down. You do it on the bball board, you do it here. And it just shows what sad, small, petty person you are. You make others miserable because you are miserable. It shows every time you post "dumb". I pity you because nobody on this board likes you. And I am sure it is a reflection of your real life off the board.

So GFY a lot. I have a wonderful kid who overcame his obstacles in life to graduate from IU. He is a beautiful shining light compared your ugly darkness.

That’s cute…the people who want to cancel anything about history calling it cancel culture. You know, like books in the military, because they aren’t mature enough to handle it.

I know you guys are jealous that I have a lot of friends. I can introduce you to some if you like. Is his speech therapist at IU? I don’t think I know her, but I might. And for the record, explaining that your son is autistic, does indeed add important context to it being an annoyance. The noise and the disturbance to routine I’m sure was more difficult for him. Didn’t mean to make light of it with my Banana Olympics.
