And IU has never "poached" a player away from a school?Stinks. Like Michigan, I hope ND does not win another game. Poachers
We "poached" several recruits in this last class. And the class before that...Stinks. Like Michigan, I hope ND does not win another game. Poachers
A good prospect will get multiple offers. It's up to him to choose. If the situation fits, he will come to IU.Stinks. Like Michigan, I hope ND does not win another game. Poachers

This is how it's always been. These are the rules, signing day isn't until next Februaury so everyone is fair game until then. I don't see anything wrong with that. The sadness is the stuff you see(or don't see)at Ole Miss recently & others breaking the rules. Bringing in a fall signing day as CKW has talked about would eliminate some of what you're talking about, but it's just the way the game is played. In answer to your question...IU, in a perfect world, should not allow committed recruits from another school to visit. Nor should any school. Kids need to learn their word is their bond. Don't give it If you aren't sure...period. However, until all school play above board, IU has no choice but to wallow in the mud with the rest. A sad time...
I would too if I were they. But to quote Husker Du: New Day Rising. He is visiting ND now...ND likes its chances.
Wow it would be a real mess if no one could commit until signing day. At least as it is the coaches have most of the kids committed sticking so you have a fairly good idea what you have and where you need to concentrate your efforts towards the end. If no one was allowed to commit then the last few weeks would be a crap shoot and you would have no idea what you are going to end up with.Several of you have reasonable, realistic views of poaching. Perhaps the only one that adds up to me is the short status of coaches. But that should speak more about transfers of existing players more than incoming freshmen. Competition from other teams for freshmen is normal. Perhaps the problem would be solved is that no prospective player can committ to a school until signing day. After that the NCAA should allow changes only in the event of special circumstances like a sudden coaching change. But make it hard to do. Players are not like regular student. They receive free benefits galore and should be obligated to their contract like anyone else. Situations arise where the fit just proves bad. Let the NCAA handle it one case at a time.
In a time where in many states at 18 you can vote, drink, smoke pot, and die for your country, What's so hard about learning that your word is your most valuable possession, and that once given you must stand behind it, no matter how things eventually work out. A promise has,no caveats imo.
Yeah, I know...I'm dreaming...Vbg.
