It must be a real slow sports news day for a Dallas Cowboy local market organ to post an SI piece on NY Giants 5th round draft choice, Micah McFadden.

"Being overlooked," McFadden said. "It makes you want to play even more, and it makes you want to go harder."

Then again Coverdale had a couple good years for the ‘Pokes.

Micah needs a good fit more than anything in the NFL. He blitzed as much in college as you’ll see from a MLB. I think he showed good athleticism and a nose for the ball, but a team isn’t going to be doing him any favors asking him to be a traditional LB patrolling the middle. If they use him right and play to his strengths, he’s talented enough to at least fight for decent playing time.

McFadden is projected to out play his 5th round draft position:

"McFadden's film was a joy to study," Trapasso wrote. "He moves quickly and effortlessly in any direction, thereby making him a stud in coverage, particularly underneath. He reads and reacts to the offense's collective movements as fast as any linebacker in the class, and while not blessed with freaky athleticism, McFadden rarely looks slow."

"The Giants have needed quality linebacker play for some time now," Trapasso wrote. "And McFadden has "outplay his draft position" written all over him."

Our tickets were near his parents and extended family at the games and they were wonderful people and true road warriors. He‘ll have a chance to make an immediate impact on special teams and hopefully work his way into meaningful time on D. Great Hoosier.

You just never know. Did anyone seriously believe Trent Green was a Super Bowl caliber quarterback?
No, few saw that with Trent (I sure didn't), but the notion that Micah is destined for special teams is just funny. It was only one person that trolled that, and he is a pu fan so expected.

I was looking for a comparative for Mcfadden, and looked back at Hall Of Famer Zach Thomas. Like McFadden, Thomas was drafted in the 5th Round by Miami and was the 15th Linebacker taken in the Draft. There were questions about his size and whether He could consistently play Inside. Once He got in Uniform, the Dolphins discovered they found a gem Who was drafted lower than He should have been.

I don't know If McFadden will come anywhere near Thomas in his total career, but it appears that He has the same kind of opportunity Thomas took advantage of.

Micah’s draft position was negatively affected by his injury IMO.

His wrist or something else?

he didn’t miss any time for the wrist did he?
He had a minor wrist injury that didn’t cost him any time at IU, but it did limit his ability to do all of the drills at the combine. He was, however, able to do most of that work at IU’s Pro Day the week following the combine.

Here is the final NFL.com Pre-Draft assessment of him:

“Undersized inside linebacker with adequate diagnose quickness and downhill trigger. His passivity and indecisiveness against Iowa and Ohio State, in particular, seemed out of place relative to the rest of his tape. He's very average in the athleticism and speed departments but is well-prepared and exploits soft spots in blocking schemes to make impact tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He's unable to challenge blocks and constrict gaps as a thumper, but he's tough. McFadden has Day 3 value as a backup inside linebacker with core special teams potential.”

Great representative of IU and hopefully a guy who will do well for the Giants.

Go Hoosiers.

Lost some practice time initially and limited his ability to shed blockers and wrap up. He is a tweener size wise and maybe not quick enough to play the corner but he is smart and tackles well when he has both hands available.

There have been several very good LBs in the NFL that weren't "fast" and had tweener size yet LB is more of an instinctual position that allows some players to play faster than their forty says. I think McFadden is that type of player and could do well with the Giants.
