I was trying to think of the shocking events I have been exposed to in my lifetime that equate with today.

One's that rank with it or exceed it are:

1.) 911

2.) The Kennedy assassination;

3.) The assassinations of MLK and RFK;

4.) The election of Donald Trump;

5.) The attempted capture of David Karish;

6.) The Jones town massacre;

7.) The Watts and Detroit riots;

8.) The fall of the Berlin Wall; and

9.) The downing by the Russians of the airliner over Ukraine.

but frankly I am drawing a blank beyond those I have listed. Anybody want to add to the list of shocking events that equate with today but this was a big one.

I realize I am missing several but what are they?

How about Waco? I was like 18 at the time and I'd never witnessed the power of the federal government used in such a way. Not that I entirely disagreed with the government's position but how it was handled knocked the pedestal I had our government on down a couple pegs.
