I’m so very proud of my very own GA representative Mike Collins for saying that she should be deported. That’s why I abstained from voting for rep in the general election. I’ve voted for my last middle aged white man who poses awkwardly with an AR in a campaign commercial

And the Episcopalian Church will continue to decline in membership, increasing it’s already rapid decline.

She just accelerated it.

Know the room.
The Episcopalian church is already dying. As are most of the denominations who have caved to societal pressure. My church just disaffiliated from the United Methodist church for the same reason. But her asking Trump to show some compassion…. Good luck with that

Trump, in a lengthy post on Truth Social, called Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s remarks “nasty” and not smart.

“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart,” he said.

“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions,” the president added. “It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one.”

Love it!

She said nothing wrong and wasn't critical at all. Just a Christian leader asking for mercy and compassion of a new governmental leader. It's pretty standard. She or someone like her probably gave the same sermon 4 years ago. And every 4 years.
agreed

i did think the part about "people fearing for their lives" was a bit much

She was just looking for attention and her five minutes of fame. She ended up on CNN right away. In a week she will be forgotten and her little five minutes of fame will be over. Most religious leader would never make an event like that political which tells me she was all about getting herself noticed and on the liberal talk shows. At the end of the day I am not going to let someone like her bother me. She is dime a dozen in those types of churches. They all try to out due each other on who can be more woke

I look forward to the day when some of you can think for yourselves versus simply what Trump tells you to think.

Her message as a whole was 100 percent appropriate for anyone that is truly a Christian at heart. Many of you are not. You care about people in the womb and it seems to end once actual birth occurs.

He is such a thin skinned pussy. Just chaffing and bleeding for the next four years.

I'm not going to look up exact quotes and moments but Popes, pastors, preacher, and any other religious leaders you can think of have given similar speeches throughout the years. Most governmental leaders, except the bleeding vagina ones, usually just smile, nod their head, say amen and something generic like "I'll try my best."

I am curious what some of our more conservative churches have for The Beatitudes.

Merciful, meek, and peacemakers are blessed in The Bible we use. She was literally asking for mercy so I'm unsure where she fails. Somewhere there must be Bibles that say, "Blessed are the merciful who show mercy only to those who live life exactly as they would."

For what it's worth, had President Kamala Harris been sitting in that first pew, I think she would have also directed a message of compassion and mercy for those most vulnerable. Maybe the wording would have been different, but this is fairly boilerplate for for Christian leaders to preach about. It's her job to preach that message.

My mom’s family had 8 kids. 7 of the 8 left the conservative Mennonite Church. The 8th a brother died relatively young. The funeral was held in the old family Mennonite Church and the old preacher preached the funeral. He had my mom and their spouses all on the front two rows. I was only 5 or 6 but I remember it like it was yesterday. Hell and brimstone. Seemed like two hours. They were all going to hell for drinking, having TVs, women wearing jeans and cutting their hair. My mom and two of her sisters can be pretty loud. I was shocked they didn’t stand up and walk out. That idiot minister yesterday reminded me of the funeral.

This is a very good point. The Beatitudes/Sermon on the Mount are the foundation of Jesus' teaching.

I see she is going on the view today. Yeah she wants five minutes of fame clearly. That's all this is about to her.
The View.

LOL.

Does anybody really watch it? There are so many clips of all the dumb things they say, but is there a significant base that watches the entire show?

I'm sorry that your family had to sit though that, especially during a time when you all were grieving. That was beyond tone-deaf; it was just cruel.

That said, what Bishop Budde said to Trump was worlds different than what your family experienced.

When I see someone like her I can see why the country was so broken. I will stick to my church who does not give political lectures to me.
When I see comments like this it reaffirms that this country was never perfect and still has miles to go. Also lectures about life, which includes politics, is literally what church is. Have you never been to one?

I had to look that up. Not that I didn't believe you, I just had to see it for my own eyes.

An actual US Congressman calling for a US citizen to be deported for preaching a message of mercy and compassion is pretty wild. I'm not saying Trump is a fascist, but this kind of thing lays the seeds for fascism.

I don't know his church so I can't be sure, but I'd be surprised if this pastor/priest hasn't preached or at least communicated his stance on abortion, immigration and voting with faith and conscience.

Wild times when asking for mercy, compassion and love is seen as an insult.

And according to at least one US senator, grounds for deportation.

It'd go a long way for Trump to tweet something about how doesn't agree with this, defend her freedom of speech and acknowledge that he heard her message of mercy and compassion. Even throw in something to point to the issue of immigration being complicated but they'll do everything they can to protect those most vulnerable.

He of course won't do that. I wouldn't be surprised if behind closed doors Trump is asking if threatening her with deportation is a thing.

it's a free country, people, even pastors can say what they want

even if it's stupid or ridiculous
Yes they can. I’ve watched religious folks my whole life make the words in the bible whatever they want them to say.

The Bishop had the right to preach what she preached. I might argue like the preacher at my uncle’s funeral, there’s a time and place for everything.

Sorry her supposed sermon was all about politics. Good for her. She got her chance to punk Trump and Vance and she used it.
The whole thing was planned that is beyond obvious now. She can now go do her liberal tour on all the channels and the left will proclaim her a hero. Meanwhile Trump shut down all federal DEI offices last night and will continue to dismantle D.C. She got two minutes of fame while Trump gets four years. She is honestly just best to be ignored.

Sermons and Homilies are not meant to be directly confrontational. Singling out someone in the audience is pretty much unheard of.

For sure I’ve heard woke homilies before and rolled my eyes, but if a Priest ever individualized the issue the diocese would give them a firm reprimand at the very least.
