Wife and I journeyed up to Chicago for Thursday night's big face-off with the Giants...on the chance that Kyle Schwarber would be behind the plate.
During pre-game warmups we went to the left field wall to get close as Kyle was loosening up, throwing strikes across the outfield. We shouted Go IU! as loud as we could and he turned around, looking surprised, and waved and grinned. Then he tossed a ball in our direction; wife let the little kid next to her catch it.
Beautiful evening at Wrigley, made magical when Kyle jacked out the winning 3-run homer in the second inning.
Giants stole a couple bases, but it didn't look like it was on Kyle. His throws were quick and right on the bag, but the runner beat it both times. Overall, he looked right at home. And the half-page picture of him in the Tribune swatting the big shot put the cherry on top. The Cubs have a whole infield, including him as catcher, under 25 years old, so things are looking up for long-suffering Cub fans.
