One of our missions at The Hoosier is to hire an outstanding student writer/reporter each year to help us on the site.

Our first intern, Sam Beishuizen, was the total package, a true five-star. Sam made major contributions to the site in all areas, while excelling as a student at IU. Last fall, he took 18 hours of classes and posted a 3.8 GPA. In the spring, he had an 17-hour class load and compiled a 3.68 GPA. He did that while working 30 hours a week plus for us (keep reading).

Sam was also upbeat and pleasant, and a pleasure to work with.

Last summer, Sam quickly impressed us with his productivity and the quality of his work. However, he was covering Indiana’s Olympic sports in addition to football and basketball.

We told him we needed him to focus on the two major sports and that we could not pay him to report on anything but those. He made a passionate case for covering those sports and closed by saying he would not charge us for any of the time he spent on that coverage. And that is why there has been plenty of Olympic sports coverage on this site.

In May, Sam graduated from IU with a double major in marketing and professional sales with a certificate in journalism. In June, he started work as a sales executive in the Chicago office of C.H Robinson. (According to Wikipedia, “C.H. Robinson is a Fortune 500 provider of multimodal transportation services and third-party logistics. The company offers freight transportation, transportation management, brokerage and warehousing.”)

We apologize for not updating you on Sam’s status earlier. We wanted to see how much he could be involved on the site. The good news is he will keep contributing here, just not as frequently.

We will be hiring a new intern this fall, and Sam has set the bar very high. We are also working on some other additions to the site.

thanks for your business, stu coman
