Sad--Top ten FB seniors in the state in todays Star--not one going to IU

You obviously no very little about recruiting to make this post right now. Signing day isn't until February and several of these kids have visited IU recently on multiple occasions even though the may be "verballed" elsewhere. It's been my experience over the years that if you get a kid to visit, he's still looking around some. So your "sad" comment is baseless at this point!

I understand your thought process but this is college football so IU will likely get one of them when it's all said and done. We certainly will get some if this turnaround finishes strong and coach gets an extension.

Good ole Jim H is sure getting his share.
A camp At Chartard HS. Really?
Don't think he had one in Columbus O.

A. Signing Day is 4 months away. Verbals are pretty meaningless.

B. UM has a little more pull, no?

Do you have a link handy? I would like to read this.

I also wonder if all ten guys hold offers from IU. I'm betting no.

I do agree with the general sentiment that it is sad that IU is not top of mind for our best players in state. Hopefully that will gradually change. I know of one recruit who IU is recruiting very hard who is from a small school. He doesnt seem to have ever even given IU serious consideration. Won't even visit or anything.

Until the program is established as a winning one, recruiting in Indiana will continue to be very challenging for the top kids, none of whom are likely to flip to IU.
The good news is that the players ranked 11-20 are better than ever. If IU can get 5 of the top 20 kids in state that would be a good start. I hope the program is comprised of mostly-half?-in state vs out of state. Crowds will increase for sure.

Not enough D1 players in Indiana who are Big Ten level to do that.

True. But this has been going on forever so not sure why everyone is shocked here.
Hell - we had Mallory putting together bowls and his own kids didn't stay home. All went to play for Bo.

However, consider that we landed Latham, Kenney and Antonio Allen all in the same year, all top ranked, all flipped from prior commits and coming off a terrible season.

There are at least 10-15 players in the Indy area that are Big Ten level. Are you unfamiliar with Indiana HS football. Indiana HS football is full of talent. Brownsburg has 2 Big Ten recruits for crying out loud. Let me guess, you are not from Indiana?

There might be ten in certain years, tops. You're vastly overvaluing the talent level there. Just not that many power five level kids. Rosters prove that without question.

I listened to ESPN this morning's (Mike & Mike)
discussion regarding college football recruiting in general.
One of their guests (Joey Galloway?) stated
that there are some high school players who factor
how cool (to them) that the school's uniform looks while others make their decision based on the extent the players
can tweet their friends during games in the locker room. Both factors seem rather shallow to me but then again I'm not 17. Some of the more mature minds amongst them
do factor projected playing time into their final decision.
Quality of education wasn't even mentioned.

I would like for us to get more of the best players from Indiana, but we have recruited decently in Florida, Georgia and Ohio, so we will be OK. If I were a player from Indiana, though, I would go to Bloomington even if the team were 0-12.

at this point in the process every high school kid in the country envisions themselves playing at Ohio State, Alabama, or USC. once they realize those offers aren't coming through mid tier programs like Indiana will fill out their rosters.

That's one reason why todays game is so important. We are competing with the Maryland's Minnesota's and maybe now Wiscosin's for recruiting not the SEC and PAC 10. the future is brighter as its a step above competing with the Purdue's and Mac teams for players that we have been.

I get your point, but right now we haven't established that we are beating out PU often enough. They got a couple this fall that we surely could have used (esp. at RB as it turns out...).

Again, I don't think you have any knowledge about IN HS football. It's at an all time high. I agree years ago, not so much. But in recent years, Indy and Fort Wayne have produced significant talent. ND's best player is from FW, in fact.

I'm not saying there isn't talent, it just doesn't exist on the high end at the numbers you've suggested.

Thanks for doing this research, as it backs up my earlier point. I knew it existed, I just wasn't sure where to find it. I've said for several years now, as I follow the MIC here in the Indy area, that if we could just lock down the state, maybe get 25% of the Top 20 players annually, that will get us over the hump. You would have to follow Indiana HS football to know that. Obviously many on here do not. There are two DL's at CG, one of who I think has a brother at IU, that would look great on the DL in BTOWN. Plus there are at least 3 QBs.

IU must make a bowl game this season to stop the bleeding. Looking at that list tells me that negative recruiting is really hurting this class. I can't believe IU whiffed on those players...this doesn't set up well for the future.

Hopefully a winning season is in order and some will flip to IU.
